You can buy the plastic covers online, there are loads of companies doing them, check out what your local competition is charging and make sure you have adequate insurance, if you burn something expensive you will have to pay for it.
I have worked for a n ironing company and it is very hard work, make sure you are charging enough money to make it worth the hard work.
Good Luck0 -

I just wanted to say what a valuable source of info this has been to me. I am setting up as soon as poss but am just trying to overcome a hurdle with insurance.
I am planning on ironing 2-3 families ironing for now to fit in around my young children.
Will public liability insurance and business use on the car be enough cover?
I am confused on the level of cover on public liability as I was told that If I burned an item in the act of ironing that I wouldn't be covered, However, if a customer claimed that I had marked something then that would be classed as negligence and I would be covered. Any light that anyone can shed on this would be greatly appreciated. I feel that this is the only thing stopping me from going forward.
Thanks in advance
I don't have any insurance (apart from car) as it didn't seem worth it. I've been doing it for 4 years.0 -

I'm a sahm with 2 small children and have been looking for something I can do from home for a while - this seems to tick all the boxes.
I've just set up a website (free using gbbo.co.uk - and i've got my domain name free for 2 years), email addy using gmail and facebook/twitter accounts.....my social networking is up to date now I just need customers!
I've placed a free ad on gumtree, touch local.com and have just emailed my local 'about my area' to get the business listed in their business directory.
I've printed off some flyers (not as many as i'd hoped as printer ran out of inkand i want to get these out in the local area asap.
i've decided to charge a flat rate of £12.50 for up to 20 items (bedding charged separately). Does this sound about right? I want to be competitive to get my business started.
And any ideas where I can get the plastic covers from? I've also decided that unless my customers provide hangers I will send stuff back folded (I hate those flimsy wire hangers anyway).
Thanks and any further advice very gratefully received! Keep up the good work xx
hard to change price once up and running so maybe set a price now you can stick with, also folding a nicely ironed shirt will not go down to well but good luck, wish I were as ready :beer:0 -
Thanks again Loubylou2 I usually stand my generator tank on one of my little tables at the side of my board and put the iron on the board when I'm using it. This works fine for me.

Hi there! I'm new to this and have been reading this forum on & off for about 6 months with a view to starting up my own service alongside my existing job. I think I've got my head round most things that you have all covered, but would like to invest in a steam generator iron - mine is an old domestic one thats getting a bit touchy with age and use! Does anyone have any really good - or bad! - experiences with different makes? Your advice would be greatly appreciated!!:D0 -
