Hi All,
I just wanted to say what a valuable source of info this has been to me. I am setting up as soon as poss but am just trying to overcome a hurdle with insurance.
I am planning on ironing 2-3 families ironing for now to fit in around my young children.
Will public liability insurance and business use on the car be enough cover?
I am confused on the level of cover on public liability as I was told that If I burned an item in the act of ironing that I wouldn't be covered, However, if a customer claimed that I had marked something then that would be classed as negligence and I would be covered. Any light that anyone can shed on this would be greatly appreciated. I feel that this is the only thing stopping me from going forward.
Thanks in advance0 -
ooh could I also add...
I have noticed that some of you use T&C's, did you write these yourselves or do you have to get some sort of legal assistance in writing them?
Those of you using T&C's, has this made you more relaxed on insurance.
I am concerned about having the right insurance, as you can probably tell!
Thanks!0 -

Hi, I don't have any insurance, other than business use on my car. Whether that's right or wrong I don't know but I didn't think it was worth it. I don't allow customers on my property so don't think I need public liability and on my T&C's I state a maximum of £40 per item compensation.
I wrote my T&C's myself.0 -

Thanks for your reply. I have read so many posts that I cannot remeber if you have a website? I am not planning on a website just yet but could I write the T&C's on headed paper and get the customer to sign leaving them with a copy?
Thanks0 -

I do - you're welcome to have a nosy if you likewww.pressed-to-perfection.co.uk
When I first started I used to give them customers without fail on their first collection but now I'm not so bothered about it, which may not be a good thing but I've never had a problem with any of my customers (touch wood!)0 -
Hello all !!
I am planning on starting my own ironing business in the next few months { when I have a full plan in place all all the details / equipment ready to start }
Just a few questions I haven't noticed on other posts yet- I do not have a spare room - but enough space downstairs - I have a dog thow and wondered if anyone else has had complaints / problems due to this ?? - Do you find it easier once ironed to place in sealble bags due to this ? I would be doing it at night when the dog is pretty much sleeping and not roaming round !
- As for delivering at night time my daughter is in a few activities in the week where I drop her off and collect her within a hour - Do you think I would have enough time in the local area to drop off / collect within the hour ? or do customers usually invite you in for a cuppa etc - Which i think would be good for business if they did maybe
How long does it usually take doing paperwork / paying etc when calling at their houses ?
- Do you find it gets busier at certain times of the year ? as at xmas I usually am busy selling more on ebay etc and find time limited doing that then .
- if you accept cheque payments how do you make sure it is secure ? and do people ofetn prefer paying by cash ?

Hi
I bought a domain name from 1 and 1 internet or something like that and then built it free using Wix.com and redirected my domain name to the Wix site, so people type in the nice name and it automatically forwards to the free site.
There's templates on the Wix site so you can add what colours/contents you want.0 -
