Not the website no, only the domain name. You don't need to buy a domain if you don't want, I just think it looks more professional. You can get them for less than £10 a year.0 -

FSB - Federation of Small Business. You don't pay tax on this or other professional memberships.
I ducked out of doing my return, conveniently found other things to do, guess it will have to be this weekend insteadLife isn't about waiting for the storm to pass,it's about learning to dance in the rain.0 -

But recently things have went into overdrive which I'm very happy about just knackered as work else where as well. But if things keep going as well maybe one I will be able to give up my job and just work from home.
But was just wondering has anyone else had any problems from other companys in your area.
Touch wood i have not had any problems with other companies - but do feel conscious that i am stepping on people's toes. Have you had hassle from others? It is a shame if you.
Its good to hear your business has picked up - mine is slowly plodding along at the mo, with just a few reg customers. Can i ask what happened to make it become really busy all of a sudden? Were you advertising more or was it all thru word of mouth that you got your customers?:j0 -
just lost my job so think this could work for me but....
I don't have transport and as I have just started receiving benefits I don't know how this will effect those until I was earning enough to stop receiving those benefits? read in the thread about someone looking into receiving funding(transport costs),anyone went this route? or anyone started this from benefits, how did you make the transition?:beer:0 -
Morning all
I can't wait to get started. Just need to get to grips with my T&C's, then I'm ready to design leaflets.:j
In terms of bank accounts, do you go for a business account or just a normal account in the business' name?
Thanks0 -
I've been lurking for ages on these forums....and now you have all inspired me to set up my own ironing business. :j
I'm a sahm with 2 small children and have been looking for something I can do from home for a while - this seems to tick all the boxes.
I've just set up a website (free using gbbo.co.uk - and i've got my domain name free for 2 years), email addy using gmail and facebook/twitter accounts.....my social networking is up to date now I just need customers!
I've placed a free ad on gumtree, touch local.com and have just emailed my local 'about my area' to get the business listed in their business directory.
I've printed off some flyers (not as many as i'd hoped as printer ran out of inkand i want to get these out in the local area asap.
i've decided to charge a flat rate of £12.50 for up to 20 items (bedding charged separately). Does this sound about right? I want to be competitive to get my business started.
And any ideas where I can get the plastic covers from? I've also decided that unless my customers provide hangers I will send stuff back folded (I hate those flimsy wire hangers anyway).
Thanks and any further advice very gratefully received! Keep up the good work xxIn the words of Bill & Ted, "Be excellent to one another my friends"0 -
Re:plastic covers, I just use bin bags - White ones as they look a bit nicer. They do the job and I don't care that they don't get returned!!:j0

I am still shopping around for covers, so sorry can't help you on that score.
I am nearly there, I've decided on which insurace I am taking out, just have some terms and conditions to write up.
Good luck with it, let us know how you get on!0 -
Just added an advert to NetMums and placed some adverts around local shops.
Still confused about the polythene covers though. On Ebay there are lots - of varying sizes. I guess I want to buy one roll that will cover most stuff. Trouble is the really long ones look TOO long to me and I'm worried I'll end up wasting half of them on shirts/tops etc.
Has anyone bought these and what size did you go for?In the words of Bill & Ted, "Be excellent to one another my friends"0 -

Thank you :-)
When I started, I did some leaflet drops, but don't get too excited as I only got about 1 customer for 2 hours walking, I also put myself on Yell.com (free) and also it was word of mouth really.0
