ok...the chap I picked up the shirts from made a comment to the point of "had my ironing done before - didnt like the way they did my collars". When I asked him how he liked them done he said "dunno, just properly...." how bl**dy helpful!! I always iron my DH's shirt collars flat so he then pulls them down as he does up the last button...he's never complained.
So, quick straw poll - when ironing mens shirt collars do you:
a) iron then fold and iron again so the collar is always turned down
b) iron flat (so collar stands up when its on the hanger - IFYSWIM)
c) do something entirely different?!In the words of Bill & Ted, "Be excellent to one another my friends"0 -
I iron them flat but on the back and from each corner to the centre. But I was taught to iron flat on the front but i think they look more pert when done on the back.
But that is just my opinion not the right way.

Sorry I think I'm being dim...by the back do you mean the inside or outside? If I have the shirt label facing me (assuming it has one at the back) then I call that the inside. Is that the side you mean?
OMG I am making SUCH a meal out of this!! I have never considered the inside/outside/back/front of shirt collars in such depth...and I probably shouldnt be!! :rotfl: *gets up, gets a grip*In the words of Bill & Ted, "Be excellent to one another my friends"0 -

Ok, spoke to hubby about this.... He says iron flat, fold, then iron again on the inside ( where the shirt sits against the neck). This is the way he was taught in the army...:j0

This is the way I always do mine and I have an ex army customer who commented that was just how he wanted it.
My main headache is never knowing what to do with the cuffs on dress shirts. Some customers like them folding back and ironing, some like them ironing flat. You can't please everyone!0 -
ok will go with the army method! If its good enough for them its good enough for me!
20 shirts to do today....best get cracking!:DIn the words of Bill & Ted, "Be excellent to one another my friends"0 -

lol good luck with the shirts. i certainly dont envy you!
Can I ask if this guy saw an ad in a shop window as your previous customer did? Im just waiting for my business cards to arrive from Vistaprint and then I will run around town putting up cards in shop windows, PO etc.
Don't fancy paying for advertising in yellow pages etc, although i have put notices on gumtree, netmums and set up a facebook page too. I've also ordered magnet car door signs from Vistaprint too.
Just hope it all works but not expecting any business until I get my delivery from Vistaprint.
Let us know if your young chap was happy with the way you ironed his shirts

Customer saw ad on t'internet - I think Gumtree. He lives outside of my 3 mile free delivery radius and there are no ads near him so I was curious how he found out about me.
Thanks for your good luck! Shirts took me 2 hours 20 mins to do...but 18 of them were the type with foldback cuffs (cufflink type) and it always takes me longer to do the sleeves on those.
I've done them to the best of my ironing ability so I do hope he's happy...I called him earlier and I'm dropping them back to him tomorrow morning. He was happy with the charge.
He then phoned me back about 10 mins later to say he had a load of t-shirts needed doing so would I take those back with me when I deliver the shirts! Hoping he could become my first "regular" customer! :TIn the words of Bill & Ted, "Be excellent to one another my friends"0 -

You always get someone like that... I once had a lady ring and over the phone asked if I could iron the shirts just how her husband likes them with no further explanation (and, no I don't know her husband). She turned out to be a regular.
Re collars, with label facing upwards... I iron the collar flat, then fold as shirt goes on the hanger.
Best of luck. In no time at all those 20 shirts will take you half the time you currently thinkLife isn't about waiting for the storm to pass,it's about learning to dance in the rain.0
