  • Yes its always the men who are fussy:D

I do as giggles alot. Iron collar then just turn down when I hang it. I do the second button only up although I had one customer who wanted the top button done up. He was very fussy but rang to say how happy he was as he'd been to several places but no body understood his requirements:rotfl: Then he proceeded to try and knock my prices down:mad: I nearly got sucked in aswell but managed to hold fast.

He came back several times but then stopped but one day my husband who does the deliveries spotted him on Apprentice! It explained his wheeling dealing. Anyway he was the second out, a bit of a wally.

Customer saw ad on t'internet - I think Gumtree. He lives outside of my 3 mile free delivery radius and there are no ads near him so I was curious how he found out about me.

Thanks for your good luck! Shirts took me 2 hours 20 mins to do...but 18 of them were the type with foldback cuffs (cufflink type) and it always takes me longer to do the sleeves on those.

I've done them to the best of my ironing ability so I do hope he's happy...I called him earlier and I'm dropping them back to him tomorrow morning. He was happy with the charge.

He then phoned me back about 10 mins later to say he had a load of t-shirts needed doing so would I take those back with me when I deliver the shirts! Hoping he could become my first "regular" customer! :T

How did it go? Was he pleased?

I charge 70p for shirts. Used to take me ages but i'm much quicker now. Depends if you're doing it in their house or yours.
Bedding sets (duvet cover sheet p case) I charge 2.50 for single, £5 for bigger sets. They take a while as I always do them really carefully. But agian it depends what sort of fabric. Some cottons and poly cottons are quite quick. The Egyptian cotton can take ages.
I'm interested what others charge though.:)

  • Hi, I'm thinking about setting up a part time ironing business and got a couple of questions for anyone that would help.

Sounds silly, but how do you fold t-shirts if the customer doesn't want them on hangers? I usually fold them in half horizontally, then in half vertically (if you see what i mean), then fold the shirt sleeves underneath. Trouble is, I keep getting them creased around the shoulder area, is there a better way of folding?

I've heard that using foil underneath the ironing board cover reflects the heat back up making it quicker to iron. Is that right?

How much should I charge? I'm in Redditch (Sth Birmingham), I was thinking 50p kids items, 80p T-shirt, £1 shirt/trousers? Is this reasonable?

Does anyone on here have a website? I'd like to set a cheap one up...does anyone know if this actually builds business? Is flyers, advertising in local shops/papers, yellow pages any good?

That's it for now, but I'm sure I'll have more questions :) Thanks in advance.
