It would be interesting to hear from MSE people who have been to group discussions (also called focus groups) as to what they thought of them. As market research group recruiters, our job ends when people go into our living room with the moderator (researcher/facilitator). So we may have recuited eight people who have their car insurance with Blogg's Wheels Direct, but what we don't know is how those people felt about being in the group. Was it enjoyable? Were there some odd characters in there? Did people feel happy contributing their ideas? Were there people in the group who dominated and were perhaps allowed to skew the group? Did people feel they were making a valuable contribution? Was the moderator good at their job? And so on.
Although obviously the money is nice to receive, in my experience it's not always about that. I remember once we were doing research on living in Derby and Nottingham and there were a series of groups with the same people. For the last group they were meeting at my house in Nottingham and going by coach to Derby. One of the respondents came early, a young Asian woman. She sat on my couch and burst into tears. As you can imagine, I felt awful that we had put her in that position but when I talked to her it turned out she was crying because she was so moved - she said it was the first time in her life that anyone had asked for her opinion on something, usualy she was told what she thought by her father, brothers and husband. It was hugely important to her that someone cared what she thought and was listening to her. It made me realise that it's a very powerful tool.

paid survey is a good option for earning extra money but highly unreliable. you wont get paid constantly because you wont constantly fit to all the surveys out there. they would only send you such surveys which fit your profile0
