  • I've paid my TV licence in full for the year.
I've also paid council tax until our next payment schedule in April (paid Dec and January today)

We aim to save 8k in moving costs and 25k deposit. That's 33k before we start looking. So if we can save 16.5k by next December (2019) we will be half way there . Determined to achieve the 16.5k.

    So far we have
    5k emergency fund
    246 bricklane
150 (+75 bonus) help to save
    1000 in moving costs account

I hope to get to 2000 in moving costs by the end of this year but I don't know how achieviable this will be as I've had to take this week off work after crashing my car and suffering concussion and severe whiplash. The car is a possible right off. I'm just releved it wasn't worse

mumof3.12kindebt - sorry to hear of car incident, I hope you make a speedy recovery. Cars are easily replaced, your life is much more important so get well soon and I hope you are able to get 'back in the saddle' as quickly as possible. Best of luck with your financial plans for 2019, they're looking good. It would be a massive achievement to save that amount in a year or two - well worth frugal living! :)

Sorry to hear about your accident mumof3 Hope you're feeling better soon.

I'm plodding along here. Only a week and a half and I'm on my holidays and I'm desperate for the rest.

Looking forward to getting my plans together for the new year.
  • Hope you're okay mumof3!

I'm busy making plans for the new year - mine starts on 22nd December (I do solstice to solstice) - and I only have another 7 working days left before I start my winter break!!:T

The house is currently in turmoil.....plasterers are working away and we have a huge amount of work still to do but at least we're heading in the right direction now! I do seem to be spending vast amounts of money, but at least I will see the benefit in a few months! ;)

Solstice will soon be here! Yeah! It's like wishing life away waiting for the shortest day so we're back on our way to springtime. I do solstice to solstice for Frugaldom but base my budget on calendar months, so it gets a bit complicated now that I'm running it as a tax year. (April to April). My numbers are all scatty, as I'm away from home more often than I'm there, nipping between house, caravans, frugaldom and the holiday cottage. The latter (also named Thrift Cottage) is my final big challenge of the 2018-19 year, as I want to redecorate it then make a start on the little workshop that adjoins it. For now, I am spending far too many hours on Pinterest, browsing ideas!

  • Sounds great Frugaldom!!

Next year for me is finishing the house renovations (garden will be in 2020 as it will be a massive expense due to the access issues) and paying off my mortgage to achieve mortgage freedom finally!! :j

I must admit, I am pretty much wishing my life away at the moment - I long for the days where I am relying on no-one other than ourselves to do the house (contractors are nice but not as quick or reliable as I want) and I am desperate to live somewhere that doesn't look like a bombsite!! I long for a clean house.....more than anything else if I'm honest!! :rotfl:

I'm all over the place money wise - once the plastering is done then I will have a big count up and get back on the straight and narrow.....it's hard at the moment to do any work on my budgets at all - I have about a 2 square feet of work space on the kitchen table to do absolutely everything and my work laptop takes up the majority of that!!

On another note, the weather here is horrendous at the moment - rain is coming down like a monsoon - I'm freezing but can't put the heating on as it will make the plaster crack potentially....I cooked seitan yesterday just so that I could have some heat in the kitchen (and lots to snack on! ;))

Stay warm and dry folks! :D

Might have to be more frugal in future. Read about suggestions by MPs to tax over 40s extra. Would not be impressed if that happens.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.
  • Hi! Just wondering if there will be a new challenge in the new year? : )
I have 2 jobs (I hear tomorrow whether one is closing) , both in Customer Services. :grouphug: Hoping the High Street recovers soon..

I'm counting on it as I really, really need to get back into watching the pennies (and the diet and the exercise and the house decluttering and ......)
