So new car was £36k OTT and you are now surprised that you aren't in effect getting 36% off?

So they made a very obvious mistake which you wanted to take advantage of instead of clarifying at the time.

I dont think its an "obvious mistake". He was told it was valid on two separate occasions.

Big discounts on new cars are common.

Ok then 2 brand new Dacias, mid range very decent spec. 5 year warranty. Award winners for last 5 years. 16k the pair.

You are now up 9k plus the cash for scrapping the other 2

Even if you jumped hers up to a step way for much easier access its only another 2.5k

Why would he want a Dacia when he has his mind set on something else?

Have you nothing better to do than troll?

I think your quote naive to think they are paying you £6k for a car that they are going to scrap!.

How much is the car worth that you traded in?.

You get how "scrappage" works dont you?

They give you a large sum of discount to take an old car off the road. Nothing to do with its actual value.

rickf - you first mention in post #7 that the car you thought you were buying would have made your wife's disabilities easier.

Why didn't you mention it in your OP as I suspect many posters here thought a £36k car was a bit of a luxury model rather, perhaps, than a modified one. I don't know if that is relevant or not, but why not explain the exact situation in the OP? Whether it's relevant or not, we don't know, as you haven't explained.

Also, is your wife's disability why you've used all your resources on a "£36k" car? Again, you've not explained.

I also think £6k "scrappage" is a bit unusual. Do you mean trade in?

Why does he have to explain himself to anyone?

Hes asking what he can do about discounts he told he was able to get and they are now reneging.

Hes not asking for permission or insight on how to spend his own money.

Erm. Thats pretty much the norm on the motoring board. Everyone drives £500 wrecks that cost them £500 per year to keep on the road and think that everyone else should do the same.

    Sadly, you're right.

People seem to think MSE is about doing things using the cheapest option when its not - its about getting what you want at the cheapest price.

The O/P spotted and acted upon a good deal, which sadly the dealer has now reneged on. That doesnt mean he couldnt afford the car or that he should have bought a Dacia instead...

It's just a marketing gimmick to offer a discount to people who have older cars and are less likely to buy a new one which the manufacturers carried on after the government finished the official scheme.

That's why was asking how much the car was worth because they may have been able to sell it privately instead.

Also if the car has any value then they won't scrap the car they will just sell it instead which has been reported in the news.
  • Since you were made aware that the deal was not finalised, and the dealership was not responsible for the failed MOT or breakdown I think you'll have a hard time getting anything out of them.
    A witty saying proves nothing
