Halifax Clarity don't need to be notified

There was always a travel notification section on the Halifax website so that you could tell them when and where you were travelling.

Now it just says,
Going abroad soon? You no longer need to tell us
You no longer have to tell us when you are travelling abroad. Our fraud and security systems are always on the lookout for suspicious activity on your accounts meaning you can relax when you are away making going abroad stress free.

Makes things a lot simpler. I think there's just Aqua and Nationwide I have to tell now. Unfortunately, you can only tell Nationwide about one trip at a time, rather than log them when you book the trips.

I never told Aqua, and neverhad a problem.

It was the reason I got the card until I changed to Halifax.

Just logged on to check and so does mine.

Although they say you no longer need to tell them the option to advise your travel plans is still there.

I probably won't bother for a trip to somewhere like Spain but I'm going to Australia via various other countries next year and I'm not going to take the chance that my card may get blocked for being used in multiple locations.

Just because you tell them doesn't mean they won't block it anyway, I've had that several times.

Always make sure you have a backup card.

Same here, although only once and quickly sorted with a phone call.

Nice spot, glad they no longer need us to call

  • Same applies to Bank of Scotland and Lloyds.
  • I've never told Halifax (had my Clarity card for a few years now), but I did have it blocked once, I think when I tried to get some cash out in Denver.

Make of that what you will…

I used to tell Halifax that I wanted my Clarity available for use in all countries and they would say that would last for a year, but I haven't bothered lately.

I only once found it blocked, in Cambodia, probably it was when the year expired, but I used the app to get it working again within the hour.

One thing I would never do is waste time and money trying to call a card customer services in the case of any problem, having plenty of alternative fee-free cards to use until back in UK.

For me, time and money isn’t so tight that I can’t afford two minutes and 6p on a phone call.
