  • I dont see the point in Sky anymore with the advent of decent internet unless you watch a lot of sport and ppv channels and have a big disposable income.
I have a Freesat PVR, Netflix 4 screens, Amazon Instant video (just for a few months for Grand Tour). When I want I will add Nowtv Cinema/entertainment to get the latest movies and Sky Atlantic but this will only be a few months of the year, so the most I will ever pay at anytime will be £34 a month but crucially I can cancel at any or all of them at any time.

Worth noting with Now TV - they almost always offer discounts to continue with the passes when you go to cancel. I've had the entertainment package for the last 12 months, and the most I've paid per month is £5.49 (normal price £7.99). I had the movie pass for 3 months @ £4.99 a month, then cancelled it - no offer straight away, but got an e-mail a month later with a half price movie pass code. If you've got decent broadband, Now TV is a no brainer over having a Sky box.

Argos are currently selling Now TV boxes with a three month Sky Movies pass for £19.99

I keep buying boxes to get cheap passes. And when the subscription period runs out, take a break and switch back to Netflix.

Edit: you can probably find passes for sale on ebay as well. A lot of people were buying Now TV boxes from Tesco recently purely to get extra club card points to convert to air miles. They were selling the passes on ebay and selling the boxes to a company that buys them for recycling!
  • All these businesses making money.

It's ridiculous if you ask me :rotfl:

Didn't think Sky would let you subscribe again at a discounted rate if you are already an existing customer?/Live at the same address.
  • Now TV does.

Sky will treat you as a returning customer, not new
  • For £10 a month I would just get Now TV Movie pass and not enter into a crazy 18 month agreement.

I don't know how Sky are getting away with 18 month terms for Cinema or the regular TV 'entertainment' packages for existing customers, it would be interesting if a longstanding customer cancelled before the 18 month minimum term was up, because early termination charges are supposed to ensure the company is compensated the real costs incurred if you terminate early, a 'new' customer getting a new set top box and physical connection, it's not unreasonable for Sky to insist you pay upto the end of the agreed term as they had a lot of real costs, but to 'upgrade' an existing customer to Cinema ( for example) is a few keystrokes on a computer by a Sky employee, if you cancel after say 1 month, how can they 'fine' you £170, when to remove Cinema is also just a few key strokes, the penalty is totally disproportionate to work involved.
