I would be interested to know how the Pure Bug compares to your old digital radio for reception. I have only had experience of Pure DAB's (have an Evoke-1 as well as the Bug) and am looking out for a cheap digital radio for my mum. I have to admit that some stations are hard to get on my Evoke - I have to turn the radio around to get one station or move it to a different part of the house.

You're in luck - my friend is bringing his Bug over this very evening, so I'll post a full report! :)

Right people here's the scoop - as stated earlier the Sharp could not pick up any DAB stations in my kitchen, even with its metre long aerial extended...whilst the Bug can pick them ALL up in the same position!!! Some of them are even listenable without extending the (much shorter) aerial, such is the difference!

As a result I've just bought myself a Pure Elan on eBay for £51 delivered, new! :D

The moral of the story is, if you don't think the DAB signal will be that strong where you live, don't buy the Sharp (buy a Pure)!

Ok I am convinced that I will go for Pure either Elan or I may splash out on the Bug. Phil_P would you be so kind as to let me know when you get your Elan if the reception is every bit as good as the Bug you tried? Secondly can you let me know if the Alarm function is as practical as the Bug.

Alternatively does anyone out there know how I can get the Bug cheaper preferably sub £100?:p This website is good, very good, but is it up to this challenge;)

As always thanks in advance for all your advice.

As mentioned earlier I saw the white Bug at £99.99 in my local Euronics shop so I would hazard a guess that this could be a national offer. On Amazon.co.uk there is an used (unwanted present) white one for £84.99 + £5.01 delivery.

The graphite version generally seems to be more expensive (I guess they have more stocks of the white as I would think they sell as many). PS. If you are testing a Bug out in a shop be aware that the software is unlikely to be updated - make sure you update it when you get one... much better functionality. If you are seriously interested in radio the new software version can download a 7 day program guide I think (on top the normal facility of being able to set various timed recordings of radio programs).

    QUOTE]

Thanks Searcher2 I remember your earlier post now. I don't think we have a Euronics within 40 miles of us so I think thats a no go.

I am not sure about buying off an individual off Amazon as I am sure the Amazon guarantee ensures that the goods will be as described and will arrive but where would I stand with a manufacturers warrantee? I am sure a manufacturer would query a purchase that was bought second hand through Amazon Marketplace? Does anyone have any experience of this? The Amazon Marketplace T&C's don't seem to mention this. Without a manufacturers warrantee I would want a cheaper price than this, especially when Euronics are knocking them out at £99.

I am more and more convinced that Pure is the way to go with DAB and I am veering away from the Elan to the greater facilities that the Bug offers. I am prepared to wait up to about a month for the right deal to come along. Anyone else any ideas?

Morgan computers are selling refurb Pure Bug (silver) for £99

However I still think 100 quid for a radio is a bit much. Gonna wait for the price to drop (if it does) before I get one.

I did have the Pure Tempus, which is a nice bit of kit and has a good alarm clock function. You can get that for £70 at morgan

Phil_P let us know what the Elan is like. I might buy one or possibly the EVOKE-2.

    Cheers.

Will do, though won't have it til next week as the eBay seller I've bought it from isn't despatching it until Friday (7 days after payment) and still claims this is a good service!
