in Credit cards
I paid off my credit card (Capital One) and then received a refund, so was £500 in credit. I spent this on betting sites and assumed as I was using my own money, I wouldn’t be charged fees... I was charged an ‘advance fee’ as well as cash fees, amounting to £30! Can they really do this considering it’s my own money I was spending? I’m going to close the account when their lines open, that takes the p*ss!

Calm down, read the cards terms and conditions.
All cards that I know of treat gambling transactions as cash withdrawal transactions and will charge fees.
Only gamble with debit cards.
Also you further breached the cards terms and conditions by allowing it to go into credit.
Are you ready for a credit Card?0 -
They can and obviously do charge a fee for gambling transactions. As most credit card issuers do.
Normal purchases wouldn't have incurred any fees.0 -

No not debit cards. Using debit cards on your own bank account for gambling marks you out as a bad risk if you ever need an overdraft. If you already have an overdraft you could find it reduced and recalled. "Gambling" also includes the National Lottery.
Traditionally, Neteller has been the prepaid card of choice for most gamblers although loading that with your bank debit card could carry the same risk as using your debit card for gambling. Load Neteller with paysafecard from your local shop.

If your card receives a refund that puts it into credit, the best course of action is to ask the CC provider to send you these funds.
It calls out the way gambling transactions are processed in their summary box.
