  • I would if there were space to install a bath
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

Only if there was someway I could add one. I love having a relaxing bath and with a baby / young child its a lot harder without a bath to put the baby bath inside. So yes I'd be put off. However if its an executive flat then a single career person might not mind so much.
  • a bigger than expected response! I'll be installing a bath, however it's interesting to see how close the poll is now with so many responses!

Growing up I always had baths, in the last 18 months I have only had showers and I hate it. The only time I get to have a bath is when I stay away for work and thats not always guaranteed or when I visit my parents 5 hours away!

Im the type of person who will read a book and have a cup of tea in the bath!

We are looking to move (rented) and if a place only has a shower we are not even bothering looking at it, house or flat! If I get into the position to buy it will need a bath too.

I have seen 3 and 4 bed houses to rent around here which only have showers and for a family home it seems mad not to have a bath/shower combo

  • I voted yes, because I'm a shower person. While there have been times I've appreciated a bath to ease out aches and pains, I find I either get too hot in them, or the water gets too cold too quickly, or I get bored!

I've probably used my bath no more than 10 times over the last 15 years - to bathe in. However, it does have its uses. I often do costumes for my local dramatic group, and some of them need to be washed by hand. The bath is the ideal place to wash a full-length 18th century dress!

I think it also depends on the size of the bath. Our previous house had a large bathroom with a generous bath. It was comfortable for us both to get in at the same time and it was nice to spend an evening relaxing together, with a glass of wine and some music. (I still didn't use it much on my own, though.) The current bath is much shorter and narrower and I've never felt comfortable in it - so trying to relax in it simply doesn't work.

    No bathee, no buyee

We just viewed a house on Saturday, it was a 4 bed detached house with no bath (and the bathroom would have little floor space if a bath was installed). There were also more important other issues, but I would have expected a 4 bed house on the market at 'offers over £1m' to have had a bath.

Baths are very important to me but I would buy a house without one as long as there was space to install one , if the house was otherwise what I was looking for

All houses I've had (ahem, two) have had baths & hallelujah for them,as not only can I soak, but I can wash children, laundry, soak things (um, better I leave it at that) in a bathtub which I cannot in a shower cubicle.

So long as there is space for a bath I'd have one - they aren't grotesquely expensive (like, say, an Aga) and even shower enthusiasts Can Cope.

My neighbour has just sold his house. A 3 bed family house. Only one bathroom which he converted to a shower room. The house was advertised as a family home but not family bathroom in the description.

He has sold it to a young couple with 2 young children.

I prefer showers, but I would miss having a bath. I occasionally like a nice soak. I do find a bath tub useful for doing hand washing and leaving things to soak over night etc.
