    @Kendizle,

The variable deal OFTM offered in March this year was indeed lower than the company's Fixed deal offering. However, and given the performance of Sterling - its been most volatile, it was clear that energy prices were only going to be moving one way, namely up.

Now, far from crowing about the fact, I've stated clearly I'm risk averse. That said, i requested could you state which Scheme you signed up for and made comment of the fact OFTM seemed to have dropped Fixed contracts not long after i joined them, which should have raised alarm bells.

So, far from being some kinda of genius, its a case of just fixing energy costs for a set period, which may, or may not, work in my favour - the same applies to Fixed DD payments, which judging by what's happening in the market won't last much longer given several businesses have hit the wall this year.

Mine has gone up 53%. Only joined a couple of weeks ago, I will be switching by the end of the week. My shortest ever time with a supplier!

    rcp,

When you state a couple of weeks ago, does this mean you are still within your 14 day cooling off period, and, if, as was the case with me, not actual T&C's were dispatched with your Contract details you can legally extend this Cooling Off period. Please read the supplied link: https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/nireland/consumer/energy/energy-supply/problems-switching-energy-suppliers/you-ve-changed-your-mind-about-switching-gas-or-electricity-suppliers/

Editor, I signed up about 6 weeks ago, so I am passed my cooling off period, I am about 2 weeks in to the actual supply.

It's easier just to switch, as I will still get the current outfox prices until I have switched. May go for the 2 year switch on the mse energy club deal.

My total energy consumption last year was 3100kwh for electricity and 550 kwh for gas. Amazingly I dont use my central heating for half the year and even then it's minimal. Brand-new house & very efficient.
Despite these figures, somehow OF have managed to inflate my projected consumption to over 4100 for electricity. So a 33% increase, despite no changes to my behaviour. But it does allow them to bump me into the next membership band.
You're one of a growing crowd. You can be forgiven (almost) for not being aware of this. There are several posts on the subject, but it looks like MSE are just sticking their heads in the sand and ignoring it. Your fee is indeed based on estimated usage, which in the case of a new build will not exist. Other posters who've commented say that they are charged a fee based on an 'average usage'.

I've learned my lesson from this. For one I won't be using MSE next time I switch, unless they get their act together. The important part is never to assume the information on the switching site is accurate. Always read the T&C for yourself. I doubt it would have registered to me anyway. The details are so confusing and regularly changed.

Surely that would only be noticed by someone experienced who was actually looking for a fixed rate. To the average user possibly switching for the first time, where are the warnings?
  • I'm 3 months into a switch with OFTM for electricity and 2 months into switch for gas and yesterday received an email informing me that my tariff would increase on 1st Jan 2019 with my estimated annual costs increasing by 23%. OFTM are impossible to deal with; they send out totally misleading and inflated estimates after I sent photos of meter readings covering duel fuel usage over the previous 12 months.
Nothing has gone right - initially they only transferred electricity and not gas although I went through MSE's Cheap Energy Club switching process. I have yet to receive a single bill from OFTM although I've been requested to supply meter readings every 3 weeks.
    Today I've switched.
Good bye and good riddance to OFTM
  • OFTM have blocked my switch due to a £16 debt on the account which i have now paid. Trouble is my new supplier i am switching too said that the whole switch may be cancelled and i will have to re-apply. Only time will tell, i just cant wait to be rid these idiots, i have never spent so much time on a phone to an energy supplier.

Well just had an email from my new supplier GNE saying the OFTM have upheld the block from me switching so i have to reapply.

Trouble is the Cheap energy club wont let me re-apply as it states I'm still switching.

    MODS:Sort it out please

As my new supplier(GNE) has cancelled the switch due to OFTM objecting i have now tried ESB energy via Uswitch (Fixed 2 year deal) Slightly cheaper. Lets hope OFTM don't object to this one.

When i phone OFTM they claim they are not objecting but clearly they are. Also apparently it takes them 5 days to clear a debit card payment so that's probably why it cancelled.

    I am loosing the plot.
  • Hello everyone. My experience with OFTM hasn't been good at all.

After I applied to move my energy on 7 November, I never received any emails from them. The email I sent to them on 22 November asking about progress remains unanswered and the transfer is in limbo-land.

I gave up and have now applied to the Green Energy Network 2 year fix instead, as part of the Cheap Energy Club's deal. Just hope I have a better run this time.
  • Hi everyone

We had a smart meter installed by another company and as we switched to OFTM it went ‘dumb’. Ever since our meter has been playing up and not displaying anything correctly.

With the price increases and changes with the direct debit we are now thinking about moving providers.
