Travel Agents are very welcome on this board and are thanked for the time and effort they put in to help users. While it’s not this site’s policy to allow use of the boards as a medium for gaining business, information on how to save money is always welcome

so Jetset_House is very welcome to post here and anywhere else as long as they keep to the code of conduct

Thanks for that explanation Brown. I do not understand how does dmg know that JET is pm ing anyone? Can you read my pms to others and do you know when I PM them? I havent broken any rules but have talked privately to some about my partner's disabilities. Taffy

Taffy, dmg is not a moderator and will not have access to anyones PMs. It has all stemmed from a previous thread where someone was enquiring about the cheapest price for a cruise and Jet sent this person a PM and posted a message on the public forum asking them to 'Check their PMs' instead of putting the full details in the public domain. This obviously aroused some peoples suspicions and resulted in dmg proclaiming themself judge, jury and executioner of these boards.

In this case Jet doesn't seem to have broken any rules as she hasn't 'touted for business' or pasted an affiliate link that she can make money from. Instead, they've just posted a link to a good offer that we can all benefit from run by a company she is in no way associated with.

The idea of these forums is to help each other out as a community to find the best deals and make savings, it just seems people are too quick to judge and hide behind the 'rules' without taking into account the fact that the original poster has taken time out to try and help us (and after this episode I doubt they'd be wanting to do it again in a hurry!) Dmg making threats to email jet's employer about a supposed breach of rules it is taking things 10 steps too far and is completely out of line.

Personally, if the OP had made a post regarding first choice it would not have bothered me. As long as its a saving we can all use and benefit from then I don't see where the problem is. Sometimes the best discounts and offers come from people inside the companies making the offer, if we're all saving then I don't see the problem. While i don't agree with touting for business for personal gain, if its something everyone can benefit from these discounts should be posted and celebrated! Maybe the mods should have another look at the rules to make them a bit clearer.

I had some respect for DMG24 but no longer - trying to get someone the sack is poor. I wonder what Martin would think of that vindictiveness? If DMG24 is such a stickler for the forum rules, what about the fundamental one about being nice to others?

p.s. surprised at the lack of a response to the criticism - you'd have thought 8.5 posts a day would be enough

In this instance though I feel the user has a made a valid and worthwile contribution offering MSEs a good deal, I don't really see what importance being a travel agent has if they are not directly promoting their own service or making any money off this deal.

I must've been away when this place stopped being a community and started to become a bureaucracy.

Not so long ago this forum was a pleasure to visit, and I can honestly say it has saved me hundreds of pounds through the generosity of others sharing their ideas or money saving schemes.

It now seems to be meeting place for 'Bleaters' and 'Little Hitlers'.

I reckon if certain people upset others through their crass comments, then they should be thrown off the site by common consent.

Completely agree. It's very sad that it's not as pleasant as it used to be. Still, there are some great posters (new and old) who do contribute positively and do genuinely try to help without soliciting the click of a thanks button...

I tell you what I am glad that I have stuck by my own basic instincts and morals and that is do unto others as I would have others do unto me. I am appalled at this dmg and her actions to others. It is the teacher in me she says. I would hate to be one of the snitches given encouragement in her class. Taffy
