Welcome ravylesley, I've only just started posting here too - I love this thread, it is full of amazing people who perform amazing feats of time management and are very generous with their recipes and advice. Have you any good ice cream recipes please? I've found a few, and there was a booklet that came with my machine, but they mainly include raw egg and even though I buy free range eggs reared locally (when I can get 'em) I won't use raw eggs, thought of it scares me to death :eek:
morwenna that flan sounds fabulous - am going to try it out next week
D&DD glad to hear today was a better day for you than yesterday - and I too sew in feet and inches !!
I've been very productive in the kitchen today, I have made:-
56 donuts
chicken noodle soup (with lots of hidden veg)
tomato soup (ditto the veg) for the freezer
more dehydrating of vegetables
bread and rolls
made pancakes for sandwich boxes (kids love these filled with cheese, folded in half to seal in cheese then dry fried until cheese melts and pancake goes crispy - that is to say they like them cold next day in packed lunch instead of sandwiches)
lemon drizzle cake
vat of popcorn
Right - just time for a browse of the forums before I get sorted for the evening and settle down to watch Cranford.
Oo-er forgot to say I did a full sort out of kitchen cupboards and checked through food stocks...feel very smug now!People Say that life's the thing - but I prefer reading

taurus - my ice-cream recipe involves making a "real" custard and then once that has cooled, whisk in double cream and then put it in the ice-cream maker. It is very fattening but oh so yummy! Let me know if you would like the full recipe0

Oh yes I do Jamiedodger, I have to keep it in a cupboard that is fairly difficult to get to so use it in spasms but when I do use it I try and do a lot of stuff at once. I am always endlessly fascinated by how I can get a basketful of veg into a couple of glass jars ( I really need to get out more!) I also find I can get the kids to eat fruits that they aren't keen on if they are dried in the dehydrator (or semi-dried so chewy).People Say that life's the thing - but I prefer reading

i soooooo want one!November NSD's - 70 -
3 egg yolks
75g sugar
225ml semi-skimmed milk
225ml double cream
2.5ml vanilla essence
In a bowl beat the egg yolks and sugar together.
Bring the milk to the boil in saucepan (rather than in MW!), pour over the egg mix and beat together then return mix to the pan and stir constantly until the mix thickens and forms a film over the back of the spoon. Don't boil or mix will seperate. Remove from heat and then leave till cold. Stir in cream and essence, pour the mix into the machine with the paddle running, allow to freeze until the desired consistency is reached.0
