a friend of mine said today another friend and i can go to cash and carry on thursday with him if we want as they have all there xmas deals starting. yippeee i thought. but i was thinking i wonder what is actually a good deal. never been before. was thinking could get a nice big gammon joint for xmas. but then thought it might be too big and not be money saving in long term.
...
I used to find cash and carry a bit of a nightmare as I kept forgetting to add the vat on when working out value. I gave up in the end as I found I was spending too much money.
Might be worth going along to check out a christmas treat or two?... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

PP you put me to shame!! I've been cleaning instead this morning *don't want lil_me saying I'm slacking
* Then my bro in law turned up..
I have to have a go at the lumberjack cake now..my 'to bake' list is getting as long as my 'to do' one
There's definitely a bye-law round here that says you aren't allowed to do housework on days where you do baking :rolleyes:that's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it
The apple braid looks and smells delicious. I also made some individual *boats* for DD's pack-ups from the extra dough. I have a photo - will try to post tomorrow, when I'm not baking - so you know what that means

First make up an apple braid dough... divide into equal portions (I used the small recipe so made 6 buns as I'm a piggy :rotfl:
Take out of tray and let me cool off..meanwhile take a jar of jam (I used HM bramble jelly) and if you have one of these scary looking tools with your icing set fill with said jam (if not use a normal piping nozzle)
Next insert nozzle into bun...
Heres how they should look..don't overfill them
Finally if wanted drop upside down into a bowl of runny icing..
Next..put kettle on,make a cup of tea..and stuff said buns watching you don't coat the front of your tshirt with jam :rotfl:0 -
Wow they look super and I bet they taste even better.:T2025 Decluttering 10472⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

another question....
if i make up the gfcf dough for the iced buns, how many portions do i divide that into and how long do i bake for on what temp?:D
ds1 saw the pic of the buns and was very impressed...mum can you make some of those he said....
well i cant disappoint can i?:)November NSD's - 70 -
i made the french stick'as. they smelt delish. but the dough i found was quite heavy , i think it was because i made the stick too thick.
so next time i am gonna make 3 smaller sticks. but i love the french stick tin, fantastis. so pleased i got one. gonna keep on experimenting0 -

I have often wondered if the GFCF diet would do anything to improve DS autism but with his routines and very restricted diet i think it would be a struggle to get him to accept it.....his main food source is bread for a start!
anyway must dash as promised to make buns with ds and chicken pie for tea......sadly am using bought pastry as mine is always disastrous...must learn how to make pastry that is not rock hard hehe.
Hi NPM one of the hardest things is that the food they 'crave' is usually the only things they eat... eg bread, dry cereal, yoghurt, milkshakes and macdonalds...DS3's also included 5 chicken dippers in a circle with a dollop of sauce in the centre.. At the moment you're doing well just to keep sane..I remember how hard it was when he was little when we also had no support either, but it does get easier as you get used to their little ways..You learn their triggers and how to avoid them but still have a life! You'll do fine0 -

Hi Jcr I missed your earlier post sorry was busy experimenting with your jammy buns :rotfl: I made mine with the basic panny dough recipe its on here somewhere I'll find the post no in a mo...http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=6844370&postcount=314
Roll the dough out after kneading to about 10" x 3" and roll up longwise then slit with a knife.Glad you got your new toyHTH D XX
PS *xantham gum is like a gluten replacer puts the elasticity/strechyness back where the gluten has been removed from the flours*
Jamie I showed my mum your pics now she wants one too :rotfl: a moneysaving idea sprang to mind..I'll buy her one for xmas so she can supplement my baking (she already helps out anyway)
Re the jammie buns I haven't tweaked for a gluten free version yet sorry this lot were 'normal' ones..I think I confused matters posting the gfcf pastry recipe while I was cooking! I do need to do a gf version of the apple braid dough though..so watch this space0 -
Evening all, just a quick hello.
Jcr would be honest, price up per kilo how much the stuff from the cash&carry is. I went to costco the other day, pressumed that their meat would be cheaper, as an example the stewing steak was £1.20 per kilo MORE than I pay at a fab farm shop butchers I use, the sirloin was £2.80 per kilo MORE. Price books come in really handy when in these places, just so you don't get carried away thinking it's a bargain when it is not.
Right, anyway, tomorrow will be cooking day here. Got the mince I got in the bulk buy defrosting now. I have my little newest toy 'Genie' processor thing out ready to play withI haven't a clue what I am going to make yet so may read through this thread tomorrow for inspiration.
Kenwood have been fab and even without the receipt they have took my processor back to repair/replace. Very happy with that. One day I might be more organised...........
