Jcr - you have 'anthea' baskets on top of your units. I love them. Wanted some ever since watching 'perfect housewife'.
Feel muffins coming on now. Have the stuff to do the apple ones but lads can bulk at eating appley things. Mind, they don't always work out whats in things.
I've realised yesterday just how lucky we all are. Yesterday I had just discovered that there were 2 chocolate doughnuts left in the microwave on a plate, when I saw a friend coming down the drive. Proud as punch I offered her a coffee and HM doughnut. After eyeing it up (they were a strange shape) she had it down in two huge mouthfuls. The look on her face was of utter delight.
Next her nose started twitching like a rabbit and she asked what she could smell. (oaty loaf in BM on final minutes). No sooner had the peep gone than she was out there lifting the lid and hands in. (no oven mit! ) 10 mins later she is back on the sofa with a plate of buttered bread happy as a pig in clover. No supermarkets 'best of' or 'finest' range could have produced that look. Money may be tight but look how lucky we are to have real, homecooked goodies.
Jamie - could you let us know how the tescos doughnut maker does. I don't mind the deep fry method but a 'maker' might be a tad healthier.AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

well....
it only makes little donuts, but that doesnt bother me.
BUT...
using D&DD's gf/cf recipe....the result is
FABULOUS!!
dd and i scoffed the lot:D
it is very simple to do, i followed the recipe and put in a spoonful of mix in each hole, a few mins later: 7 ickle donuts and they are yummy!
D&DD's recipe is enough to make 2 batches ie 14 donuts, i made a second lot and iced them and put sprinkles on top and they are waiting for the boys to come home from school:)
thanks DEE for the recipe and tesco for a really cheap but easy to use donut maker:DNovember NSD's - 70 -
oh yes i love my anthea abskets. every cupbaord in kitchen has them , think i got 10 in total. i got them in instore last xmas , they were £4 or £5 each.
as for knowing what inthe cupbaords, i try to group thing's together to make it simpler , so all baking items for cakes and sweet stuff1 shelf , all savory baking bits another etc.
sammy when we moved in we only had 2 food cupboards , 2 cupbaord's for plates and crockery and the undersink one. it was all shelfs as last family liked veerythign on display , which is find . but i like to have it put away other wise kids would want everything.
we had a new kitchen put in , few months back. well tbh hubby still not got round to putting up all the new skirting's. but i'll forgive this once.
i'm going to blitz house in a min. and then have a baking afternoon evening i think. so many fantastic recipes on here i want to try.0 -

...
What should I have in my cupboard so I can make cakes, donuts, muffins, pies, quiches, brownies, biscuits etc at the drop of a hat?
Can anyone give me a help with my shopping list? pleeeze
Hi Mollymops
how about choosing 2 or 3 recipes you really fancy trying, get the ingredients for those recipes this week, then do 2 or 3 more next week and so on. That way you build up your store cupboard gradually, instead of having one huge expense. You will very soon get to the stage where you have all or most all in your cupboards already!
you will obviously need to buy the basics - flour, eggs, cooking fat, castor sugar - to start with for cakes but you can get the extras bit by bit (dried fruit, nuts, flavourings etc) and its those things which can cost most.... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Oh my god D&DD is.....................HUMAN (lmao just noticed the mexican hair wave above! :rotfl: ). You lazy trout - wish i could lay in that long, even with bf off i have to get up with ben then get to go back to bed about 10ish on a sunday and sleep till about 12ish then! Like you said you must of needed it though - hope your feeling better today though.
Ive done my baking today, did 24 cupcakes and there is about 18 left now uniced so must do that in a minute - got to put bread rolls, and iced buns in , made osme tiny blobs of bread dough too on the tray , plan to bake them, then ice them to make mini iced buns for Ben - my 3 year old wont eat a whole iced bun - me on the other hand well......................
have also been making a christmas list for myself as bf keeps saying he doesnt know what to get me and top of my list after this thread are
1. Doughnut maker
2. Jamie Olivers at home book (shows and tells you how to grow your own veg)
3.Breadmaker
4. Heros boxset (i LOVE it!)
5. Matt Willis in his chrismtas suit - oh erm...........too much!
Also have a good bit of news to report, I budgetted after THAT bill that my ntl was going to be about £100  so imagine my surprise when it arrived today at £68.70!!! :T :T :T :T :T bit happier and more relieved now!
how is everyone else today?
Tomorrow I will be tackling the housework as i keep saying im going to and havent managed to yet. Bloody plumber/boiler man has still not arrived though so still waiting for some hot water!!!Time to find me again0 -
D&DD - thank you so much for the choccie spread recipe! Unfortunately when I checked the cupboard I found there was no cocoa so I used drinking chocolate instead! Gave the kids a wee taste and it would seem that it is a success! I doubled the recipe and its sitting in a jar cooling down.
Over here in germany most things come in jars - so the lids get recycled and the jars get put in the glass bin for recycling as well. But I'm too lazy to carry all the glass to the glass bins (its halfway to DD2's pre-school) so I wash them out and keep them for storage.
So far I have made my own cajun seasoning, mexican seasoning, italian seasoning and steak seasoning so they are all stored in recycled jars in my cupboard. Sticky labels on to say whats in them with another label with the ingredients on it. So I had a spare jar for the choccie spread!
Will let you all know how the cakes turn out as well. I would post photos but my camera is in OH's locker at work... defo want it back!
Hopeing you are all well. Di xx:T :ALBM - August 2008 - Debts then - £33390 - 2nd LBM - November 2009 - Debts then - £18500:mad:
Current debt levels: OD £3860, Loan 1 £6091, Loan 2 £5052, Parents £260, Total £16133  As at 01 May 2012 - 51.69% paid off :j

Sammy glad you had some better news today
..erm lazy trout was mild compared to what OH said when I finally surfaced
:rotfl:
Been playing catch up all day though and topped off with a busy evening I've done NO baking today at all  I'll be making up for it tomorrow though
Jamie your 'cups' must be deeper than mine if it only made up 14 I'm jealous now if you've got fatter ones
The meat situation is now getting a tad critical will post a list tomorrow as I need some streeeetttching ideas..Chicken is ok but thats about it!! Can't really see the boys volunteering to go veggie for a couple of weeks..
Breakfast today was ??? Oh toast hubby says
Lunch was ham sandwiches..so he CAN make a sarnie when needed...
Dinner was spagbol boys have crusty bread with theirs as they don't eat pasta only when desperate..followed by fruit and icecream
Debating wether to use my clubcard vouchers for a meat shop or try and keep them for the xmas one..I usually have 'THE BIG ONE' delivered on 21st/22nd Dec then if anythings out of stock it gives me a chance to nip out and find some..0 -

Molly i only ever use value plain flour too (just add baking powder as needed for self raising recipes) Self raising is always dearer normally..
For breadmaking I use Tesco's own brand of strong flour which works fine and is cheap!!Same with yeast..I like the supercook stuff choccie drops etc a lot of their range is gluten free as well.If I can get them I also use value sultanas but my Tescos keeps insisting on delivering 'posh ones' at the moment:rotfl: Tub of bicarb is handy also not just for cooking!I always have a tub of cocoa or drinking chocolate in too for choccie cakes0
