Minimooch it wasnt Kethry that posted the Canadian BB recipe it was me.My kids love it and when you freeze it the taste improves incredibly.I have two tubs sat in the freezer so I know they freeze just fine.I made some Ketchup last week and as my mob get through tons of the stuff it has to be healthier for them than the bought stuff.Been to Asda this morning as supplies of fresh fruit are almost gone.Bought three bags of apples and a big bag of bananas that should keep them going till weekend and I can get to the market.I also got some mouthwash and washing up liquid that were on special offer and two large chickens for the freezer.I'm going to make some banana muffins for the freezer with the remains of the last bananas that were just a little too ripe for eating.

I snitched the BB recipe when you posted it, thanks Lesley, but did I miss the ketchup one? I don't remember seeing that and I'd love to make my own.
I'll go back and have a search so if you've already posted it I'll find it.... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Purpleivy - Is Aldi bread flour good value? we use loads, would like to get my store cupboard better stocked, but would need to make a special trip. we usually use the pink bags from Mr T. Very disappointed that Costco dont do bread flour
Hi Minimooch
I haven't used Aldi flour, they don't seem to have it. When I can get Lidl it's fine, but I have a feeling only the same price as Pink Bag (or equivalent from Sains, also 48p as I found the other night. can't remember how much I used to pay for LIdl, 59p rings a bell. Morrison's own when they have it is about 65p I think.
As supply from L was unavailable I went to Sains and got 4 bags the other night. (Was going out to Staples and dd wanted the driving practice ! LOL. FIrst time I had been with her, usually leave that to DH.) I try and never go out of my way for shopping. I go to Morrisons on SUn morning for the bulk. This is because it is the nearest (well not quite, but can't do a full shop at Somerfield, to expensive and insufficient choice) reasonable supermarket.
If I want to go to Tesco, I have to pass on a Thursday night anyway, so Tesco only items get picked up then. Usually try and top up with petrol too. I hate going out specially.
Aldi is near the station, so tend to do that if taking dd or her bf there (as this morning, they did have the pineapples, smallish, but only 59p, peppers 59p, paid 1.20 at Morrisons on Sun! onions cheaper there than anywhere. Am about to try their tin toms. No bread flour or powdered milk.
Try and give Sainsbury's a wide berth, not cos I don't like it, but just cos it's pricy. Asda is too much hassle, on a shopping park you have to queue to get on and off, DOn't care for Asda really either. Will get £5 of stuff there if I need the free parking !
Heck, seem to have rambled, sorry!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

found this on the thrifty resource bar thanks to libbyloo
For the Ketchup:
Quarter the tomatoes and put into a large stainless or non-stick saucepan with the sugar and vinegar.
Peel and slice the garlic and add to the pan with the mustard and Worcestershire Sauce. Bring to the boil and simmer very gently for about an hour. The tomatoes should be very well cooked and reduced with almost no liquid left in the pan.
Puree the tomatoes in a food processor or liquidiser and then push through a sieve. Store the ketchup in an airtight container that has been doused in boiling water. The ketchup will keep refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.
Ingredients
For the Ketchup:
500g British classic or plum tomatoes
30g brown sugar
70ml white wine vinegar
1 clove garlic
large pinch of English Mustard
dash of Worcestershire Sauce
a little salt and freshly ground black pepperNo big food shop for 3 weeks - total spent £27.25
hoping to keep it under £75 for 7 of us and 5 cats 1 dog for 3 weeks0 -
That's great, thanks Danksshady :T... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Hi Ladies,
Made Nigellas mini meatloaves last night and they are scrummy - DD loves them (think it's the sausagement in them). So DD and I had jacket spud, meatloaf, veg and OH had jacket spud with curry. Made OH subway-ish baguettes with packed lunch today with meatloaf and he was well chuffed, even better, we have 8 more in the freezer
Today I have made chicken, bacon, mush pie, so that's tea sorted, also have a pie to freeze. DD and I have also made chocolate chip biscuits (from an old St Michael freezer cookbook), we used our Tesco Heart cutters and took a tin over to my sister's - they disappeared within 5 minutes. Thankfully, half of them are safely tinned here at home
I am loving all of this cooking. Brother in law has taken DD off to the Cinema so I am enjoying 30 mins p&q before OH and DD return.
Rosieben - apart from using vinegar to clean my windows - not sure quite how OS I am with cleaning - what do you do?
boredofbeingathome - what scones did you make the cheese and ham ones? these are next on my list
have taken the sweet pastry out of the freezer and am about to make some cherry bakewells
went to Tesco and spent another £66 but next week's shopping should be around £30 as everything is now fully stocked (and stocked again :T )
OH is feeling proud as all his colleagues are commenting on his "luxurious" packed lunches :j

oops, sorry Lesley and thanks, that recipe is going to be a lifesaver. It can be hard to find back-recipes to thank the originator, so I'm making a note of the posting number now when I copy them to my book. May have to make ketchup too, same problem, I hate the smell, and the "we dont do ketchup, we are a brown sauce family" doesnt seem to wash with the 4-yr old anymore :rotfl:0 -
Today I have tried the rapid bake option on my new Panasonic for the first time. The result was still perfect.
I have also made the Viennese Buns from the recipe book with the bread maker. I took them into work still warm, I had my annual appraisal so I thought they might help, everyone loved them wanting more. Yes I had a glowing review as well, did the trick!:T;)
Roast chicken in the oven now for tea, yummy.0 -
I use half spelt and half strong white in the Panasonic on rapid bake, THis is nice. Apparently the spelt needs a shorter time,"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"
