Morning All, have the next 4 days off work (YIPPEE!!
Fiona's Fiesty Chilli was lovely a tad on the sweet side so I added a tbsp of rogan josh paste to beef it up, amazingly DD ate it, normally she eats the kidney beans and leaves the meat
purpleivy your baking has me drooling - I want a muffin now!
Yategirl - sorry to hear OH is relocating - will he get a car or petrol allowance? this happened to my friends husband and because of the relocating he was given petrol allowance, they bought a 2ndhand small car and are now better off as the petrol allowance was the same regardless of engine size - worth asking if you haven't already.
Rosieben - I am hoping that by encouraging DD to get involved with cooking (1) it improves her diet and makes her more adventurous and (2) when she leaves home she'll be equipped to look after herself rather than live on readymeals and greasy kebabs - later in the year I am going to buy a book and I shall start writing her "fav" recipes in so by time she leaves home she'll have a cookbook of her own
Moonkbargirl - ouch re your car exhaust hope only good luck comes your way from now
I am helping DD's brownie pack today - not quite sure what I will be doing but it;s sure to involve glue, glitter and hundreds of girls LOL!
Went into Iceland yesterday and spent £27 on essentials - and got some Chicago Town Missippi Mudpie Icecream for 50p - yum yum!
Haven't decided what's for tea tonight - am thinking sausage & mash as it's so easy

Hiya Ladies,
Just thought id pop on and say hi, I've barely been on for ages!
Not much time really, especially now its half term, my LO wants all my attention, so ive been busy keeping him busy! Had a lovely weekend, spent a few hours at the park trying to teach LO to ride his bike, and dreaming about holidays! We have a little week in Wales booked for May, but id really love to go abroad this year and feel a bit of sun on my back! We havent been abroad for nearly 6 years, there always seems to have been something or another that has prevented us from going. We can only TRY to get away this year if I budget as best as I can and save any spare money to go towards a holiday so heres hoping! Ill be looking to you ladies for lots of inspiration!
Hope everyone is well!

I think its great that you (and so many other OS mums) are teaching your kids to cook, it will give them such a head start when they go off out into the world. :T
and her own cookery book will be something to treasure when she gets older. will you be teaching her a few OS ways with cleaning etc? if so, you could put those in the back of the book to make a household journal! :j... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Thanks donnajt,
Got the car back, bill will follow in about 7/10 days. Great.
I made the banana bread/loaf last night to use up the manky looking bananas in the bowl. It was lush. OH tried to bin a banana last week he hadn't eaten as he spilled some soup on the skin and it was a bit bashed  I nearly flipped it. lol Just as well I salvaged it from the bin (just after it went in) as I needed 3 for my loaf and wouls have been 1 short without it.Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!0 -
Hello again everyone, i made the crumpets and didn't quite turn out how i wanted to, i tried the second recipe and think i left something out but will try again. The scones are something else. everyone can't get enough of them. Each batch produces about 40 scones. I do some mini ones then i dont feel too much of a pig. They are all eaten within the day, so have told everyone am going to make some later on in the week. Have seen a recipe for lemon drizzle cake on the back of one of the flour packs and have just bought a bag of unwaxed lemons in tesco reducedto 13p so will try that one next. I think that all this baking is doing my dd good as well, as she is diabetic i have played around with reducing sugar in the recipes so we can count the carbs for her, it works out quite well and is helping her to feel she can control blood sugars without missing out too much. I was advised to use reduced cal sugar in cooking but felt that it would be better not to have unknown chemicals in cooking. Taste wise we have not noticed much of a change either.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

Finally got round to cooking my large joint of beef. Managed to stretch it to tuesday, and had the rissoles someone suggested (sorry, searched the thread but cant find out who), they were brill. I've never cooked them before and definitely going to be a regular if I can only track down some more cheap beef joints.
To whoever posted the canadian beans recipe (Kethry?) thankyou so very very much! I HATE tinned baked beans, the smell of them is more than I can bear, wont have em in the house. The children of course love them, but now we have a compromise, baked beans that we can have at home that even I could eat. My very faddy DS scoffed the LOT without any persuasion, and he's getting something healthy :j. Going to make huge batch for freezer.
does anyone know if I can freeze flapjack?0 -
Yes, flapjack will freeze, but lasts quite a long time in air tight tin any way"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"
