    Hi D&DD

I'm so glad you're going to continue this thread - it has been such an inspiration!

This won't help you with the Soya milk, but have ever tried the dried skimmed milk powder, or long life milks, as I think they're cheaper. Milk has really gone up in price this summer, hasn't it?

I use the milk powder mostly in bread, but it's great to make a pint up when I run out. Don't notice it on cereal or in tea, and have made custard with it, but don't think I could drink it 'neat'. Also the UHT makes a lovely creamy yogurt.

I'm joining you all on the Flylady threads next week - eek! (Not at home this week, hence delay)

Kind of looking forward to it, I think......!

    rumbly x

Hi Rumbly :D I have a carton of longlife which I keep meaning to try out before I bought a load, might crack it open today and see if its ok for coffees etc..Never thought to try UHT for the yoghurts , great idea!! Its often on sale in our sainsburys..
I'm thinking of trying to make some soya milk..its supposed to be easy but knowing me I'll make it and put his nibs off it for life!!
He sometimes has Vances Darifree which is a powdered 'milk' made from potatoes..its really nice but soooo expensive!!

The grocery prices seem to change every day at the moment dont they?? I can't keep up! Dread to think what the birdflu outbreak is going to do to the price of turkey this xmas  Wondering if it will be either double the price due to shortages or half price because noone will buy it

Oh and speaking of flying ..OH's working away upstairs while he thinks I'm down here baking I'd better get going !!
  • I like the sound of the savoury braid, too. I still haven't made the apple one as 'life' got in the way the afternoon I set aside. DS2 has just told me that he has invited his cousins this afternoon and they are like locusts when they've been at school all day. Seems a good time to try them out. :D

Do you think that they would both freeze ok?

Have bought some Typhoo teabags with 100% extra on BOGOF at Morrisons so they are making the pantry seem less empty. Oh and McDougalls flour was on BOGOF too with 20p coupons on the side of each (great for general use in my Tescos) so a bargain. Worked out cheaper than the value flour I'm used to so can't wait to use one when I get stuck in later. :D

I use dried milk in bread and baking, and its really useful to have for a standby. I've recently started using long life and its great for cereals and cooking and for milky coffee but I really dont like it in tea - weird!

I've been using the butcher in the next village (where I shop for an elderly rellie) but I just investigated the butcher in my village and they sell milk and really nice looking fresh veg so I will try them for top ups in future, though they are likely to be more expensive so will watch costs ;) I'm still sticking to my one shop per month from tesco with a top up mid month for fresh veg and milk and that seems to work for me.
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

 One of our moggies has a very sweet tooth and has just swiped one of the doughnuts off the top I had left to cool..He's sitting here cleaning his whiskers and looking very pleased with himself!!! We even have to hide the cake cases from him otherwise he'll lick the crumbs off, then eat them...
Had a good day baking *photos to follow* got a bakewell tart in the oven, made [STRIKE]36[/STRIKE] 35 mini doughnuts and got some bread dough in the panny :D (I have a confesion to make..I HAD to buy that french loaf tin thingy £3 from amazon arrived this morning:j , but did get it out of my ebay money...honest!:A ) so will take a pic of how they come out later..if they work!!

Cheerfulness the apple ones freeze great, you can warm them through from frozen(wrap in foil) or defrost first. Not sure about the savoury but shouldn't be a problem with the cheese just not sure wether you can freeze salami??

oohhh look forward to seeing hte pic's.

i havent' posted much on this thread lately , but i have been reading each day.

when i can peel myself away from pc i'm going to make an apple braid for pudding tonight.

i'm using up whats in cupbaords and freezer. and don't really have much of any use left in. well i do have alot. but nothign goes together. meals have been um well interesting.

Just done a huge bulk shop on tesco and when i say huge i mena huge. about £300 , alot on bogof's tho. so going to go through it all and see if i need it all.

i'm trying to not go shopping much. as where i been living out of cupbaords , i not been to the shops and we have saved so much money. so my thinking is , fill freezer up with what i use loads of , fill cupbaords with rice , pasta , lasange , fur etc etc. so then i only need to go the the local fruit and veg shop and they delvier for 50p and this way it will stop me buyign stuff i don't neeed. as being pregnant , i am buying all sorts of werid and wonderful thing's. is that makes any sence at all.

Have u been shopping yet ddd or are u still using up what u have ?
  • I'm loving your thread D&DD. I'm completely blown away by your six month stores, I don't have six days days worth in and I'm not joking :o but you've inspired me to be OS!
I'm secretly glad that you're joining Flylady, you make me feel very inadequate as it is - if your house was spotless as well I think I'd throw the towel in;)

    Too funny. :rotfl:

Just got my apple braid in the BM but realised that the lads will be arriving anytime. Where did all the time go?

Have told DS2 to invite them to stay for evening in the hope of salvaging the treat but if not.... hmm will have to run up some quick chocolate fork cookies maybe.

i made an apple braid swiss roll's.

    tis rather delish.

i found the dough mixture makes loads. so i made the dough cut into 3. first lot i made a braid. i used 4 apples chopped up ( i love apple's tried with 2 befre and it just wasn't full enough for me , lol)

second dough i rolled out and then covered the whole thing in a 3 apple mixture. bit u sliced the apples really thin, then i simple rolled it up. although was bit lumpy so it doidn't roll with ease

3rd lot , i made into iced finger bun's. which were gorgeous. so i am told. i never got chance to try one , family dived straight in.

def gonna try a savory mix with it tho. ooohhhh i do sooo love food.
