Rambling is always good!!!! Well done for taking the plung into becoming a Flylady, maybe I can return the favour of inspiring you :) just taken over again since the move.

Oh I need to share this one, I got DS1&2 to eat a load of roast beef small amount of mashed potato :D . Ok I was mean, because of the issues they have with texture I put it in their mouth then my finger in so they tasted it instead of letting it touch their mouths then spitting it back out, but it worked. Maybe too well, roast beef joint I buy is usually something me and DP would make 2 meals out of for us, maybe more since reducing our portions but the boys were like vultures and ate it all, no way I was going to moan or stop them this time as I was so happy, something else they will eat and we can all eat together!! DS1 was a little less impressed with the mash, his face when he put it in his mouth was a picture but at least he had some.

Right then I have made a meal plan for this week, I however do need to change it because DP spotted the sirloins I got from the farm, said should have them from fresh tomorrow instead of freezing them, so that's tomorrows tea decided!

Off to hunt for cookie recipes, not keen on the one that came with the biscuit maker....Oh bother I forgot the loaf I made this afternoon is still in the pan.....
One day I might be more organised...........

Wow a meal you can all sit down to is such a rare thing isn't it, it's definately worth celebrating!!
I've got some leftover chicken marinating in cajun spices and hot pepper sauce for a pizza tomorrow, clears the sinuses somewhat but its lovely! Will need something quick and easy after cleaning my kitchen out :D My mum usually come over and does the boys tea tomorrow, think she'll faint if she can find the surfaces for a change :rotfl:

I have the nutbrown icing kit (1950's but brilliant) and think they and Tala do a cookie press which I've been after for a while but haven't checked on ebay recently must have a look again..need one for my viennese whirls!

Thanks, nice to share with someone who knows what a big thing it is, I actually cried a little :o such a battle in our house with food sometimes was such a relief. So what if I lied and said 'I got the recipe from the people who make the waffles and it's the same as what goes inside' because he'll eat those, well did but has been leaving them lately. Ok veg will still be something each of us has different, but I am used to that and don't mind it (DP is worse for his texture issues with veg, he's possibly the most ASD out of the 3 and DSs psych agrees!) Oh and DS1s school has got him to eat pears so that's another fruit he'll have and less expensive strawberries and raspberries to buy! :D

Right anyway, shopping list time I think, meals are set out, I need some fish and some eggs for definate, will work out the rest when I look through meal plan then double check fridge & freezer in the morning. I don't know if you do this but I find I will put something on the list and forget I have enough already, so now I go back and check through the list. Saved myself £7 last week as I already had enough coffee and cocoa.

:o Yep I discovered some tomato sauce in my jam box under the stairs today it happens to us all lol.I tend to add it on my shopping board when I finish an item,I coated my larder cupboard door with blackboard paint so I had enough room for a decent sized list :rotfl: (and it keeps DS3 occupied for hours!)

I know totally where you're coming from with the little things..DS gave me a stiff little wave a few weeks back and I dissolved in front of his tutor..thankfully she's known us for 16 years!

I'm so glad the school is helping with the food, ours has been a struggle to deal with due to various issues over the last 2 years but we now have a new team in place who are great BUT DS has developed a lot of habits now due to lack of adequate help so we've slid back a lot on the food front..and isn't it funny how a favourite food is just suddenly dropped like that..
I must do the meal planner thing this week,I need to be organised as I'm determined to crack this clutter!!
  • Lil_ me and D&DD - felt a lump in my throat when you wrote about your little men and their progresses. I remember when DS2 was ill with his digestive system from age 3 - 7 and there were about 6 foods that he would eat. Never anything hot. I was so worried but that was just for a short spell in comparison. You both do very well.

He still doesn't eat normally, (no reason other than he won't now) but he developed strange eating habits as a result of that time and now leaves half his meals. Cucumber is something that he will always eat, he could chomp through half a one straight off. Won't have it as a sandwich, tho, or any foods in a sandwich, as he doesn't like his food to touch.

Well, inspired by this thread I have reclaimed back my small pantry and cleared out the large utility cupboard and have shelved it out ready to begin my little stock of food. DH bought me a chest freezer yesterday so I can properly batch bake, so I'm ready and raring to go. :j

Shall be looking for more pointers on here.:D

mm food not touching that sounds familiar...at least our boys all like some sort of fruit or veg which is a blessing:D It's hard when they are younger isn't it as they always nag you at the clinics about their weight gain etc..
:T Way to go with your shiny new food store cheerfulness, now... have you got space for plenty of flour :D
I started with just an extra tin or two each week(choose something you will use too) so it didn't cost me too much also look out for stuff on BOGOF then it actually costs nothing, one for now one for the store.
As I use items from my store I add them straight on to my shopping list..its about twenty feet long now :rotfl:
Always put the newly purchased at the back, rotation of 'stock' is the key to no waste.
Looking forward to hearing how you get on :D

Will post my updates tomorrow along with the chicken recipe I keep forgetting!!
  • Having made your apple braids (page 3 this chat) (yummy) I tried the same recipe this week with grated cheese and chopped salami filling. Made great tasty slices for the packed lunch, brilliant when time's short!
  • Hi D&DD

I'm so glad you're going to continue this thread - it has been such an inspiration!

This won't help you with the Soya milk, but have ever tried the dried skimmed milk powder, or long life milks, as I think they're cheaper. Milk has really gone up in price this summer, hasn't it?

I use the milk powder mostly in bread, but it's great to make a pint up when I run out. Don't notice it on cereal or in tea, and have made custard with it, but don't think I could drink it 'neat'. Also the UHT makes a lovely creamy yogurt.

I'm joining you all on the Flylady threads next week - eek! (Not at home this week, hence delay)

Kind of looking forward to it, I think......!

    rumbly x

    Finally...

4 chicken thighs or drumsticks (or whatever is in the freezer)
    2 oz smoked bacon
    2 large onions
    2 sticks celery
    1/4 lb mushrooms
1 lb new potatoes (or old ones cut into quarters)
    14 oz tin tomatoes
salt and pepper (I also add a pinch of mustard powder)

Chop bacon, peel and slice onions, chop celery and slice mushrooms.*note you can use up any veg you've got laying around for this I always chuck in a good couple of handfuls of chopped carrots too*
Heat a drop of oil in a frying pan and fry bacon, onions, celery and mushrooms (and any other bits) for 5 mins.
Remove and place in a large oven proof casserole dish.
Fry off chicken joints til they are starting to brown.
Add these to the layer of veggies and bacon, just lay them on top.
Chuck the potatoes, washed (and peeled if preferred)on top *uncooked*
Chuck over the tin of tomatoes and thats it you're done!
Season and cook covered for approx 1 1/2 hours on 300f,GM 2,160 C

The tomatoes seep down into the veggie mix and create a lovely gravy so theres no need to add any stock at all :D
