I bought some plain couscous, I'm going to cook it with stock cubes, veg etc as I would for savoury rice but would like to hear any other suggestions?... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

i feeling loads more positive about my house today. sun is shining ( even tho i don't like the sun i'm a winter girl) but hubby and i are going to get into the garden with the kids , sort out shed, plan what to do, and where things are going to go.
i've striped all beds and washing will be going on line in a mo.
my kiddies snook downstairs this morning and ate the 2 last bakewells. little pickles. my kids are so cheeky. but i not gonna make any more for a few days, as it just keeps getting eaten and we are supposed to be cutting down. i had hoped they would of lasted until middle of the week. but hubby got munchies while i was asleep aswell. Do they not realise i don't make food to eat , lol. just to look good.
ah well nice my cooking is appreciated.0 -

We've been out in the garden too, trying to get the front patch sorted for new beds asap.. means lifting the gravel though which will take me forever(!) Come in now and am going to attempt lemon curd I think and then meringues with the leftover egg whites - wish me luck!0 -
Hi girls - sorry I've not been on for a few days - its been blooming hectic here! Well have a list of things a mile long to do today - hubby supposed to be on a day off but the army being the army - he's putting up tents today for an inspection on monday lol. Went in 5 hours ago for a couple of hours but thats pretty normal! When I have tidied up my kitchen and utility I will post some piccies so you can all have a wee nose lol.
Have to tidy it up - it looks like bagdad on a good day lol. On top of that have to make bread, some iced buns and a braid for the kids (we use lemon curd or yellow jam as they call it - tastes yummy!)
I promise to try and post some pics soon. Take care all - and a big hug for you JCR16 - dont let them get you down.

Ok, my microwave which died on me this morning
it was just a cheap manual control one which I got on special for £30 and it lasted me for over 3 years. I’m going to replace it, but will have to be a cheapie again. I’ve found a basic manual control micro for £50 or a delonghi combination micro for £70, both in Argos which is where I got the last one.
I use my micro a lot, make cakes, jam, sponge puddings, scrambled eggs, milky coffee, jacket potts, also give veg a quick blitz if I want to hurry things up, all sorts of other things, so its used several times a day, every day. I’m usually only cooking for one.
so Gizmo-Gurus, advice please, would you recommend a combination microwave or should I just go for the manual micro?
Edited to say, I just looked at comet and they have a much bigger selection, but still need advice re combination versus plain microwave... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

I can't and wouldn't do with out my combination oven.I use it all the time but mainly just the convection oven bit.I do all my casseroles, lasagnes roasts and just about everything in it.I only put my big oven on if i'm having a busy baking day. It's great for just bunging a couple of smiley faces and fishfigers on a tray when its a quick cook day toolost my way but now I'm back ! roll on 2013

Rosieben I suppose its how much you are going to use the grill and oven bit of the microwave that dictates whether its worth the extra cost of getting a combination microwave.I've had two of them and to be totally honest I might as well have just bought an ordinary microwave cos they are so fiddly and take so long to cook anything its easier to use the conventional oven. But this may just be because I am an old stick in the mud.If you think you are going to use it then pay the extra and get one.By the way have a squizz on the tesco site as they sometimes have some decent bargains on electrical goods and they have a sale on at the mo
Yategirl and JCR take the fact that the baking disappears as a compliment because I know when I bake something my lot dont like it lingers in the tins until it goes mouldy
Lashylashla I love the kitchen it really looks classy

To be honest... we don't use our microwave - maybe 1 a month to defrost meat if I forget to get it out the freezer?! I would happily get rid of it - I banned it from the kitchen when we "did it up" and it resides on a shelf under the stairs - but dh keeps "hanging on"
Lemon curd is made - recipe only made 1 jar but the sample tastes ds's and I had was yummy! Keep thinking lemon curd yoghurt, lemon curd on toast, lemon curd tarts, lemon curd iced buns........ drool!!0 -
I took a pic this morning of my bread rolls, but not sure how to load it, Will have to tidy the kitchen and take some pics in there too."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"
