Hi honeys I'm home! Okay, the kids are at their Dads, so I haven't anyone here to shout to as I come in! :D

Dee: Congrats on the new arrival!!!! :j I was thinking about you today at work, but I am not allowed get on here to check progress! Like everyone else, I was so excited, you'd think it was my cooker. :rotfl:

JCR: Write to the council/environmental health (maybe?) and express your concern regarding Toxicaris Canis. Have you considered growing climbing roses on the trellis? Rose hip syrup to be had for the children.. I live in a terrace that is ex ICI, some of the residents bought when ICI downsized, but a local Estate Agent bought the rest and rented them out. The people that have bought are listened to when we complain and we have had people evicted who were "unsuitable." (The worst was when a lady found the Estate Agent had rented the house next to her to the guy who had burgled her on Xmas Eve  )

    Wendy+5 hello! :hello:

Dee glad that you have managed to use the new oven successfully.I always think the first encounter with a new cooker always gives you a taste of whats to come.I've only once burnt a first meal in a new cooker and that was in the one and only electric cooker I have ever owned needless to say the relationship wasnt a happy one and the electric cooker didnt last long:D

Now that you've got a new cooker does this mean we will all be having a new batch of recipes to try out from the Kitchen a la Dee:D ??

JCR as you've already tried the council route I really dont have any other advice other than dont let it eat you up inside otherwise it'll ruin your quality of life

  • I was thinking the same as you all regarding Jcr's kitchen. What mess?!!
    I was intrigued.......... 2 kettles??

Dee you have a lovely cosy kitchen, and the same kettle as me. :D

Hmmm you can see I have a fixation with kettles, I love them. Always planning my next one. :o

Forgot to mention, did a pantry inventory, since I've actually got a 'store stock' these days ;) and I found 960 typhoo teabags, 100 twinnings and 125 earl grey. Might not have much food till pay day but we won't go short of a brew. :D

I have 2 kettles, but don't keep them out all the time. When there are a lot of us here I get out the spare (was my first ever Russell Hobbs, 25+ years old, but it didn't behave like my modern cordless with lid on the top etc, scalded myself quite badly at Xmas, so got a £5 one. In the summer the spare goes camping with us) as the one won't fill my big teapot. ALso when doing a big meal I start all the veg etc with hot water from the kettle.

It doesn't matter how much storage space you have, it's never enough. All the time we've been designing & building our new kitchen, I've been saying 'I'm not sure there's enough storage space'. Everyone just laughed at me! We have a utility room and also a cellar, but want to have my kitchen stuff IN the kitchen! I've been through small kitchens and now have the one I really wanted, but it is still taking some organising. I realise that I'm very fortunate, I can keep lots of things that maybe some people don't have the space for .... but we also have a lot of 'stuff' - because that's what families with hobbies tend to accumulate - people who sit and watch telly every night and go to spain for their holidays don't need a lot of stuff - gross generalisation I know, before the messages start flying! People who cook need equipment, sew, knit, use a computer, take photographs, do theirown car repairs , run businesses from home...you get the picture... have 'stuff' to a greater or lesser degree.

At the moment I'm eating from the cupboards as much as I can and planning meals round what we have, so that we don't need as much food space. I'm also trying to get rid of other things I don't use or don't like.

I hope I don't get messages along the lines of 'it's all right for her' I still have bills to pay, the rest of the building work to pay for and then things to go in the new bit. DH has more painting/DIY to do than you would believe as we can't afford to have the professionals to do the finishing off. So I'm here on the OS board, very grateful for the help and encouragement you are all giving me and also trying to contribute in my own way where possible.

that is probably a good idea Jcr - time to think and plan properly - took me 7 months to make sure we had the right design. I'll take pics later :)

PI - I am so glad you said this: but we also have a lot of 'stuff' - because that's what families with hobbies tend to accumulate - people who sit and watch telly every night and go to spain for their holidays don't need a lot of stuff - gross generalisation I know, before the messages start flying! People who cook need equipment, sew, knit, use a computer, take photographs, do theirown car repairs , run businesses from home...you get the picture... have 'stuff' to a greater or lesser degree. DH came home the other day having helped a friend move house and moaned about how much 'stuff' we have and how little stuff these friends have got... but all of us in this house have hobbies - I have a few! We are great "home-bods" and both of enjoy being at home doing 'stuff'... our house just reflects that!!
