Dee I have three girls and two boys and they all generate exactly the same amount of washing and ironing. Some days I feel like someone is filling the wash basket as fast as I am emptying it:mad:

Well we've all just got back from DH works kids Xmas Party. It went well and the kids all enjoyed themselves and best of all they all got great presents and big selection boxes from Santa. So my house is beautifully quiet at the moment as they all play with their toys:D

Havent got much done today but I did make the Apple Braid yesterday and I have finally managed to crack the recipe and it came out beautifully cooked all the way through and tastes divine:T

I am looking at the iced jam bun recipe that uses the same basic dough as the braid and contemplating whether to split the buns and fill them full of creme patisserie and ice them with chocolate icing

That is exactly what happens in this house... and I can guarentee that the minute the basket is empty.... dh will come along and fill it up - I swear he keeps all his dirty clothes in a pile on the floor until he sees the basket is empty and then thinks he has to give me something to do.... DS1 can make clothes last longer than a day (this has happened quite recently so is a novelty to me!) yet... every morning he puts clean things on.... argh!

Come on, time to own up, you're really married to Santa aren't you! :rotfl:

 I wish, then I would get everything I've asked for  he just seems to keep saying 'you can get me ******' for Christmas, something new added every day! He was told this morning 'Sorry but Santa isn't real and I'm not a millionaire!' he usually gets similar comments daily, like 'Do what you told the kids to do and write to Santa'

Anyway, challenge still going well, I went to Tesco for DS2s glasses to be fixed and bought nothing  I've never done that before.

Cooked dinner, brisket came out lovely, cooked for my Mam aswell as she's staying here tonight and she ate it all, weird cooking for my Mam, must be 12 years since I last cooked for her. So my cooking mustn't be too bad as she's fussy when eating at other peoples houses, even if she currently lives on ready meals

Will have a rummage later to see what to do for lunch and dinner tomorrow. Haven't done a full check through or meal planned this weekend which I am finding a bit strange. Just trying to eat what we find, find something then find something to go with it is the theory.
One day I might be more organised...........

The weathers been pretty awful here- I'm in Weston super Mare and the wind has been phenomenal. It's been raining for days! DD goes to school at the top of the hill and it's so unsheltered up there it's freezing. MiL gave me loads of food for the freezer today- at least 1.5 weeks worth of meat. I'm off to bed now as I'm working an early tomorrow so have to be there at 7.

Just a quicky post as my bed is calling me, but wanted to pop on and say hi amd touch base.

lil_me the way i cook my gammon is soak over night in water, then in morning ,change water and boil for about half hour, then while hot, put into oven , in a lidded roaster , with little bit of water and some sugar. Can't say how long for cause i just take it out when it looks done , lol.

It always very tender done this way , and i only ever buy the tesco valuve gammon joint's. ( the ones that are an odd shape and NOT formed from bit's of meat , if u get what i mean)

then i serve with egg , chips , pineapple and pea's. Or roasties and cauliflower cheese, as cheese sauce and gammons goes so well. or mash and carrots in sticks again with cheese sauce.

we love gammon. if i do have any left from the meal , then gammon pie is yum. make a white sauce or cheese sauce , add msuhrooms , peas and cooked gammon. mix all up. and pour into dish and put layer of puff pastry on top , brushed with beaton add and grated cheese. or make a normal pastry and pie a make with pastry top and bottom with the filling in the middle.

serve with mash , or jackets , chips or roast. yummy.

hope this helps u with some meal idea's.

Never wanted to trust tesco value gammon joint worried it would be too salty, but may now give it a go upon your recomendation of course...not that im advertinsing Tesco obvioulsy any supermarket own brand is acceptable to try lol :rotfl: :D;) :T hehe. Talking about value items i always used to use butter ie Anchor etc quite expensive but now converted to Supermarkets Value make and its georgeous cant tell the difference except the wrapping of course ;)
:T This site is great! Thanks to Martin Lewis & everyone who participates and helps so many people! Without you all, where would we be ??:T

  • Morning all

for once i dont think it rained last night - or if it did it was drizzle and not 'quick get away form the windows its gonna smash them rain'. Anyway just over from us - bristol/western area - we've had BAD hale stones lately too - there was a fair few last night before my shift ended and i was so glad to be in the shop.

Got to say too - i love this little community - was on the till all night and seeing people coming in buying odd things they wouldnt usually buy, so when i question it (everyone in our village knows everyone else - or most of them accept newbies!) so i would say oh Mrs X you dont normally get that, and shed reply oh no im picking it up for Mr Y. All pulling together to get through it. Plus the milk and bread didnt get through yesterday again and so we have been struggling, and i have little over a pint left. Travelling within the village is ok, its getting out or in which is the pain but hopefully ill be able to today. Mother in law is taking me to another town if we can get there providing theres been no more mud slides, just over from us, hoping to both stock up on milk and bread.

now all of us are sick too - had hell of a night trying to sleep - think i might do soem cooking today but doubt bf will be up to eating tonight when he gets in - have plenty of chicken noodle soup things though so may make a batch of that for us all. then tonight if we do get out im getting cellophane so i have the fun of wrapping all my hampers before my dad gets here tomorrow

    hows everyone else doing???
    Time to find me again

sarah1975uk tbh i was always worried about any value meat. i am sooooo fussy. i can disec a chicken breast like no ones business , mil always laughs at me. But mil bought the value joint and she is very snobby about meat. and when she said she bought it i thought , well it can't be bad then.

most bit's are around £4. so if u don't like for any reason , you haven't lost a huge amount of money. Well thats how i see it any how.

Back to gadget's. i took kids to an xmas party yesterday and one of the nan's had made some home made waffles. OMG they were goregous. i've never had home made ones before. So guess what i want now. a waffle maker. but does anyone w=know where i can buy a reasonable one from please ?
