I agree with the benefits of cider vinegar but I take mine slightly differently.

I put lots of vinegar on my chips and wash them down with cider. ;)
  • I've never been a make up fan mainly due to sensitive skin, did die my hair.. Just stripes of red and blond for a couple of years, though due to a carpy health condition it has now brought that to an end in July last year.. I never hid my greys with the stripes, let them all merge in, so I shall continue to allow my hair to be natural & see how it goes.. Always referred to the grey as my tinsel stripes!! :rotfl:
Today my valet chappy popped over n gave my car a good vacuum and wash for me, it's a service I use on and off as I really struggle with doing it all myself and my lovely car deserves to be treated every now n then! It's something I worried over for a while, then accepted it's a job I honestly struggle to do, so why not use my precious energy on another job & stop stressing over it!..
Learning that what's a simple life for one is complicated for another & that's totally okay!

Thanks to all on this thread for keeping me focused when the brain wanders & gets what it thinks is a 'bright idea'

Right! Well you know what I'll be supping dontcha?! :D

I don't look healthy. I look tired. Actually, I look a mess so I can't sit here and say I embrace this because it does me the world of good but I'm still only a few months in to changing things so I can't expect anything else really.

I wonder about moisturiser. I am hooked on it. Without it my face dries up but I would like to get past having to use it. I tried OVOO but that dried my skin terribly after a while.

Fuddle , that program the other night about beauty products debunked the myths of moisturiser. Said healthy skin didn't need it. For those that still like to use it, Nivea came tops :). It's because the second ingredient is glycerin which is something that carries moisture into the skin or something like that. I was only half listening I'm just trying it as a barrier really. My face is constantly getting wet in work and covered in vegetable juices ( I work in veg prep ) It's like I use neutragena (sp) hand cream, for the barrier it offers
  • I have been following along with admiration. I would certainly like a simpler life, but at the moment I don't know exactly what that would look like.
There is an on going effort to deal with accumulating stuff, and trying to be mindful of consumption. But the rest I'm thinking about.
Not in a position to reduce work hours at the moment and there is precious little time for anything else.

Beauty products though, that I can contribute to :)

Just a couple of recommendations. Regular hot cloth cleansing can really help brighten skin. I always come back to Superdrug Vitamin E range one, feels like a treat and does a good job.
Moisturizer, a lovely general one is Waitrose Baby bottom butter (I know, ignore the name!) Made from olive oil and chamomile, no extra scent or anything, cheap. Good in the cold for protection.

Another vote for Grey's, stopped dying just over a year ago. I decided it went against my feminist sensibilities -as well as being boring and expensive. Every so often I look up cool grey hair on Pinterest, they all look gorgeous so obviously I do to!
  • What does everyone use to remove eye makeup? I use johnson wipes but conscious they are not good for the environment.

:) Back in the day when I wore makeup, I used to use a cotton wool ball moistened with baby lotion. Did the trick as long as you didn't get it in your eyes, which hurt like flip.

  • I'm 66 and I stopped dying my hair last year when we moved onto our boat. In the summer I use moisturiser but that's because i'm out in the sun for hours at a time. I've never used it before. I don't wear make-up and haven't for about 40 years. I had my hair cut recently as we were going to a posh wedding and I didn't think my 'aging hippie' look was appropriate.
I've stopped using conditioner as I now use well water to wash my hair.

I am de-lurking to say that I too would like a simpler life and have embraced the Marie Kondo philosophy ( I lurk on that thread too )

I just wanted to say that as a natural blonde, I went white rather than grey and very early too , when I was in my late thirties I had more white hair than my mum and dad combined, in fact my lovely 78 year old mother has more natural colour in her hair than I do ( she was originally a glorious auburn toned redhead)
I have a sensitivity issue with normal dyes, so now my hair is a rather wonderful pink, purple and blue mix and I love it!
It's not even semi- permanent so it just fades prettily from vibrant to pastel - I get so many compliments about it.

To Kantankurus Mare I can thoroughly recommend the Micellar make up remover from NSpa, it is stocked by Asda.
( I have heard the skin care range described as a Liz Earle knock-off!It's very good value and very effective and gentle.
Use with cotton wool to remove eye make up.
Embrace the colour ladies, those of us with white or grey hair don't even need to pre-bleach to get the full rainbow effect!
    :):)

Micellar water is amazing! Not that cheap but I've seen on offer, DD suggested it to me because I can't squeeze stuff out of tubes or bottles (arthritis in thumbs) I'm a convert!
  • Thanks....I will look out for Micellar water. :D
