plus I know you can't make a silk purse from a pigs ear, but I need to get out of this frump mode I've lived with since I hit 50
Recently I have started going to my beauty training college to have a beauty treatment a month so I reconnect with my physical self. I had a facial. The first in 8 years/maybe 10. It wasn't expensive and now my skin looks much improved. Is there beauty training school in your area? Might help in the defrumping department
Oh and I am also grey and won't dye. It isn't grey that ages but the other stuff that goes with it such as lack of shine, no make-up and a general air of giving up. I think when you go grey you have to smarten up, exercise and eat well. I intend to work on the other stuff as I won't be dyeing my hair...;)If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

Although I supposed this is cheating for me a little. I am so pale, blonde anyway that there is not much difference between my old hair colour and the new one. Also, my hair has not gone grey it has gone pure white!
You are so lucky. My friend who was the first of my social circle who stopped dying hers went pure white as well. It’s stunning. I’m more Teresa May in colour but it’s slowly getting lighter as less and less hair is coming through coloured0 -

That’s what’s missing, the shine and polish. I’m allergic to all the silver shampoos I’ve tried so far ( not many as we don’t have choice unless I hit Belfast) and I try not to use the straighteners unless I’m going out Usually I come in from work and my hair is just a mass of curls and frizz lol
The facials I’ve restarted myself. Very delicate sensitive skin so I avoid beauticians ( last time I got waxed I ended up losing a lot of skin and had a huge scab to hide for daughters wedding ). I ordered some Liz Earle stuff and got given some for Christmas and I’m using it religiously and my skin tone is looking better. Also the knocking the alcohol on the head and quitting smoking must have helped
I’m in town right now, just treated myself to a poached egg and coffee breakfast and will have a gawk around the chemists to see what marvels they are selling. I’m tempted on some Nivea for wearing whilst working because as I say it’s extremely cold and wet and my face feels sore by time I’m finished.0 -

I'm going to print that out and stick it up on the wall.0 -
I don’t dye my hair at the moment but no greys yet. I used to dye it red/black/purple in my teens/early twenties but gave up as my natural colour is very dark anyway so the effect of the dye was rather subtle and it was a lot of hassle. At the moment I feel I’d rather dye if I start going grey but I may feel differently when I’m older (I’m 29 at the moment). It is an expense and hassle plus as someone mentioned, the potential impact of chemicals on your skin.
Lovely simple day today - played with LO in the snow, baked apple & cinnamon mini muffins, read stories, cleaned out chicken coop, sorted all the KonMaried stuff in the spare room into bags for charity shop (three big ones!), textile recycling (one) and a half full rubbish bag. Also about four varying sized bags for the loft. The loft clear out is a must as it’s rammed with stuff. Some for hypothetical (but very much wanted) next child(ren) but some is just stuff we’ve avoided dealing with. My parenting philosophy is a lot more streamlined now too so I know I can get rid of some of the baby stuff anyway (barely used it last time).Part time working mum | Married in 2014 | DS born 2015 & DD born 2018

I was a copper-haired child, darkening to a reddish brown with golden lights in summer as a teen and as a daffy student had my barnet every colour from peroxide blonde, to shocking pink, to green to jet black.
I feel I've got all that out of my system...... :rotfl:
I usually get taken for 5-10 years younger than my chronogical age, and by the way people get ticked off when finding out the truth (cos I tell them) I think they're genuine errors not flattery attempts. My so-called beauty routine is soap-and-a-flannel and no cream other than hand cream.
One trick which has surprising effects is to get a product called Honegar (Holland and Barrett, among other places) and take a tablespoon a day dissolved in a large glass of water in the mornings. Honegar is honey in apple cider vinegar. I was given this tip by a complemetary health practictioner who'd noticed the shadows under my eyes, reckoned to be sign that one's liver is struggling.
Within 3 days, the shadows had noticably lightened and within a week they'd gone. Pals who've known me for years keep commenting on my 'glow'; which isn't bad for a woman currently going thru the menopause.
It's £7.99 a litre and I bet you'll find it the best beauty product you ever tried.:DEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

GreyQueen, my friend swears by apple cider vinegar in water
I had planned to bleach my hair and dye it a really cool colour (turquoise or bright purple) upon becoming a SAHM in the autumn but I’ve yet to have the spare cash or courage! My hair is pretty long too so maybe not a great idea...Part time working mum | Married in 2014 | DS born 2015 & DD born 2018

Right! Well you know what I'll be supping dontcha?!
I don't look healthy. I look tired. Actually, I look a mess so I can't sit here and say I embrace this because it does me the world of good but I'm still only a few months in to changing things so I can't expect anything else really.
I wonder about moisturiser. I am hooked on it. Without it my face dries up but I would like to get past having to use it. I tried OVOO but that dried my skin terribly after a while.0 -
Chomping my way through two salads (brekkie and lunch) plus other stray veggies and fruits has really helped my appearance. I have, in earlier times, been paper white and, on looking in the bathroom mirror of a morning, had this thought; it's a darned good job I'm standing up, because I look like I died yesterday.......... :rotfl:Talk about pallor, even my lips looked bloodless. Vampires would have been envious.
fuddle, health takes time to build/ re-build and it can seem a long time getting there, and I speak from experience. Am currently on Project Iron, aiming to get my ferratin levels off the bottom of the so-called normal range to something more average. And, hopefully, get some more energy and that my nails will stop being so weak and flaky. It takes about 6 months to grow a fingernail, so it'll be a long time before improvements come through.
Working towards better health is a worthwhile endeavour but improvements seldom happen overnight, so please stick with it. And enjoy your honegar - I sling actual apple cider vinegar onto everything you can imagine, it's pretty good stuff.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Reading the last couple of pages generally gives an idea of our age group lol
Another one here with lots of grey hair (Im 51) but even though I have to do a root touch up every three weeks and a hairdresser visit for colour and cut every other month, I wont be stopping any time soon though I wish I had the guts!! Bores me to the back teeth.
I look at the young girls colouring their hair just for a change and think........when you get older and HAVE to colour it, you will feel differently.
I have a friend who has taken the plunge and let hers go completely grey and it suits her.
I said to my hairdresser about going lighter..(Im dark brown) but she said I would have to bleach it first which I didnt like the idea of so Im stuck.
Maybe when Im nearer 60 I might go for it. We'll see.Make £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £600
