  • I am a new poster and I am currently re-reading the thread. Re Christmas presents, my Dh & I stopped over 20 years ago! We bought expensive BUT longed for presents and advised everyone that this was the last time we would give presents! There were no problems at all - in fact most people were relieved at not having to stress out about present buying with the added bonus of saving money!

Now, my Dh gets to choose two items a week for consumption e.g. sausage casserole plus focaccia Or fish pie and coconut biscuits.
This means I get to play in the kitchen (the only visibly clutter free room in the house) and know that my Dh is definitely enjoying what he is eating.

    Thanks again to OP.

I only have one foundation in use at a time, one blusher, lipstick etc. I do like Clinique but resist buying it because of the expense but then wonder if buying that and using it up would be more value for money than buy cheaper stuff that I get fed up of. Any views on this?

I also took up card making in the spring of this year and love it. I have one tower drawer which fits snugly in my living room and I use this for all my equipment and just one drawer of my sideboard. I aim to never go over this space, if I buy something new that won't fit in then I get rid of something to make it fit. Any crafters here who like to minimise too?

    Hiya,
When it comes to make-up it really does depend on what suits you and it's always nice to have something to feel good in! My foundation is 7.99 rimmel and I love it. I have also tried premium such as Elizabeth Arden and it really wasn't for me. Found it dried my skin and didn't have the coverage I like.

I used to make beaded jewellery, but didn't really have the time so I sold everything. I had stuff everywhere lol! Still have some there that I keep meaning to ebay (thanks for the reminder :D)

Can anyone think of a use for foam packing peanuts? I have two carrier bags full and am reluctant to just throw them away if there is some clever alternative use for them.

Could you use them for packing presents? Years ago my Auntie gave my brother money but put the money wallet in a large box filled with tissue! :rotfl:

I've just finished a couple of crocheted ear warmers for myself and youngest DD. There are days where it's not really hat weather but the wind can be biting on our hill. 'free' as I hit my little stash.

I have ordered wool for a crocheted gilet. I've lost weight and I'm likely to loose more so this is my way of renewing my wardrobe with higher quality items and a low price. I will need to buy a chunky wooden button (ok, that's a want, I only need a plastic button :D ) but I've sourced a free t-shirt sewing pattern that can be printed out and assembled by sticking pages together so I will source some higher quality jersey knit and start renewing my t-shirts.

I could easily fall into the trap of being a clothes consumer. Clothes are my nemesis according to history but I've moved on and I'm determined to be faithful to the crafts I've learned, build my skills, save as much money as possible by not being a full blown consumer.

Could they go in the bottom of containers for plants instead of crocks to help drainage?

The crafters on here are putting me to shame- it is an area of my life that I struggle to simplify. I knit, sew, papercraft, bead, felt, paint (all types including mixed media) and draw......and of course read about all of them more than I actually do them because of my health issues :-)
Looking forward to lots of inspiration and tips on how to enjoy these hobbies without them taking over the house!

Hi since I kondoed, the marie kondo way, my life is much simpler.
I find things easily as everything has a place, there are no items that are kept just in case and cluttering up.less stuff means less cleaning /easy to clean, so more time for enjoying things.
I find I don't want to buy as much any more, I think clearly about where it will go wether I actually need it.

It also helps to clear your stress ,it feels there's less pressing down on you .if that makes sense.
I don't craft , but once thought I'd like to paint and bought things to do it, but realised that it's more aspirations of painting that I thought I wanted to do it than actually doing it!!!!

I always use food up or freeze it so I don't waste it. I enjoy my garden but don't have success with growing food so stick to plants!
I find it helps to fast forward adverts on tv, and ignore shopping sites. I also think coming onto these forums and seeing others progress and ideas helps to focus the mind on what I want to achieve.
Simple life for me means a stress less life with time for my family.
Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.
  • Had for breakfast this morning from the freezer last night a delicious raison and cinnamon croissant that was part of a y/s shop about a month ago I think I paid 7p for it and I wish I had got a few more as it froze beautifully and when defrosted warmed in the 'ping' machine was gorgeous with butter and some grape jelly that my Dd brings me back from NYC Smukers grape jelly is delicious either on croissants or even in plain greek yogurt mixed in.
