My son (now 36) remembers "helping his grandmother make soup and "helping his grandfather in the garden. I remember playing ludo and snakes and ladders with my parents and grandparents on a Sunday night and that was back in the early fifties.
W, you've had a really tough time lately. Your exhausted and out of your routine and routine is important to you. I'm sure this will feeling will pass.
I hope the wee one improves.
Take care xxxHave adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.0 -
Oops, sorry to cross post W. Glad it's just a cold.
There will be things to do within range of the hospital - and I'm sure you'll find them though at the moment you will be missing the things you used to do but can't. Ask around and there may be other parents or staff with ideas. Also don't a lot of children's 'feel good' moments come from endlessly re-watching the same favourite movies?
It's blowing a gale here but at least we have sunshine. I hope your appointment goes well and the coffee is good.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Morning WannabeFree
Posting from work, I didn't want to just read and then rush off to do my next task here...
YOU are an amazing mum, You always put your wee yins first in everything and trust me, they will remember how you gave everything for them.
It is the simplest wee things that kids remember about their happiest times of their childhoods... and you have and are creating plenty of them with yours.
They are your world and you are theirs WannabeFree and that is an awesome thing

It is important that we know where we come from, because if you do not know where you come from, then you do not know where you are, and if you don't know where you are, then you don't know where you are going. If you don't know where you're going, you're probably going wrong.

Thank you TF. You're right about the routine. I guess it's finding a whole new one now.
Cherry you are right she loves the simple things - I just can't help thinking we are wasting time. I guess it's all about finding the balance.
Thank you US as always

So time to make some plans.. This week is different so out the budget - have to buy some things on Friday £130.20 (why is special needs things so much more expensive? It will last though and is a 'one off')
But after this week
Weekly Out
£99.10 Rent
£25.60 CT
£15 Gas
£15 Electric
£11.40 Water
£2.50 TV License
£2.50 for phone credit
£16 bus pass *this is needed now we have so many appointments
£33 Debt
£2 Snack
£25 for food/everything else.
Debt
Debt £490
Medical item £190
Goals
To be debt free soon as possible (then debt repayments will go into an EF and 'fun' pot)
Enjoy the time with smalls - be grateful we have some and make the most of it. (medical item and Friday's purchases means daily living is easier - we can do school runs etc without trying to find 'help') It also means we can enjoy outside time/walks and even go to the supermarket and things without a big inconvenience)
Attend appointments - definitely needed.
Keep up other two smalls groups - thanks to advice here they now have somewhere they can talk and meet other smalls in similar situations.
Make the most of what we have - luckier than a lot!
Overall be happier - keep it simple. Me being happier makes them happier - makes doing things easier.
Keep looking for 'options' - keep an open mind.
Think that's enough rambling.“Once you hit rock bottom, that's where you perfectly stand; That's your chance of restarting, but restarting the way.”0 -
Just wanted to say hi and sorry you're having such a tough time, you sound like a fantastic person and Mum who is doing the very best and more!
Just wondered if you have anywhere you can chat with other adults whilst the kids play for instance, a bit of adult company talking about something else may not solve anything but a bit of a chance to unwind. I hope that makes sense!
I apologise for not knowing enough about 'you' and what is and isn't possible (will read the thread) but wondered if there are any local groups that may do day trips or if there's any support groups etc that do social events. Museums locally that are free and castles that have free entry.
I don't know how you manage with £25 for food, there's a website called Olio where people post their excess food for free (it's not bad food) maybe see if you can get something in your area.
Hope that's ok I mean it with the best intentions, H x0 -
I agree that simple pleasures are what children remember most fondly. Cards, board games, baking, watching favourite dvds together, picnics in the park, and just chatting to their parents and siblings.
I hope things go okay for you today Wannabe. Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

I hope you are feeling better soon and that DD is feeling better as well. Hopefully knowing that the court costs are paid, even if the debt hasn't gone means that you can relax a bit knowing that your house is safe.
I agree with the others, that the little things are the things the kids remember and love - the living room picnics rather than sitting at the table, watching a film with some sweeties, snuggling down and being read to, as well as crafts and baking etc.
It must be so hard with littlest and her health issues, and worrying about what the future will hold, as well as struggling with the budget. Hopefully things will ease a bit once the debt has gone and you'll be able to enjoy your holiday in October and look forwards.
Hopefully we'll be in for a bit better weather soon, it makes a big difference to the mood!
You can post whatever you want on this diary. It doesn't have to be all about the money.
