I always think seeing everything down in black and white helps, whether it's bills or things that you need to do/know are coming up.
Obviously you need to pay the rent arrears and I know you will do, but am I being really naive in asking would they really evict you with 3 children, one of whom is ill? Where would you go?
You know my thoughts on the credit card - bear them in mind.
As much as you say the only real emergency is the rent, life has a habit of throwing things at you completely out of the blue especially with children.
Sleep well. x0 -
Yes teafor2 they really would. I had to go to court (and pay the fees) to get the suspension before the bailiffs came. They do put you in temporary accommodation why they added your case. But I'd be seen as making myself intentionally homeless as it's rent arrears so they wouldn't have a duty to house/help me at all. They would find somewhere for the smalls to go though.
The credit card is definitely going to be closed as soon as the statement if produced on the 18th I will call again and see what the interest is I need to pay and close it.
ETA The rent arrears built up when youngest was really small and in hospital, he had an accident at work at the same time and couldn't work and everything was just a mess. I will never ever go back to that situation again no matter what happens.“Once you hit rock bottom, that's where you perfectly stand; That's your chance of restarting, but restarting the way.”0 -
Yes, I know what mess feels like, although thankfully it was a few years ago now.
It just seems unfair when things have happened that are out of your control. A poorly child and an OH who had an accident isn't exactly p*****g it up against the wall and shirking your responsibilities is it. Pardon my French

Yes, sadly at this stage there are very unlikely to be any ifs or buts.
& sadly yes, likely to be seen as intentinally homeless.
Very sobering.
As WF says they must be paid above all else.
Only option would be for it to go back to court for a variation & I think that costs even more money. I wondered about that Beanie. It's coming up for the 'review' the HA do because it will have been another year with arrears. I wondered if they want to change my payments if it would be another court visit. I think I have to pay the court fees each time we go because essentially it is my fault. I'm cautious at this time of year
I've been lucky I got an understanding judge that was happy for the suspension to continue much to the HA frustration
But it's been ongoing for a long time now so I do see the why the HA get pushy. “Once you hit rock bottom, that's where you perfectly stand; That's your chance of restarting, but restarting the way.”0 -
It is just shocking that the council would make a young family homeless when it is clear that you are making every effort to clear the arrears. It makes my blood boil
However if I am reading this right, your debt has reduced from £18k at the beginning of your diary to £1620 now. That is an incredible achievement..you really are amazing.
I think the thing that has struck me is how little money you have but you manage to ensure that your smalls have everything they need and more. I am sure they will look back on their childhood with lovely memories.0 -
Anyway nothing bad is going to happen. It will go well and I will stick to my budget for at least the 11 months until freedom! Finger (and everything else) crossed. I will never get into debt again. It was Busymee (I haven't paid all that off in money though
) EE helped me apply to a trust fund for the EDF arrears and they cleared my arrears and purchased me a new cooker, A lot of the family debt was wiped off and contact stopped
) I have paid the fines, the rent, the council tax, all the bits in between that cropped up though)
I do try to make sure the smalls have what they need and while they are aware we can't spend like their friends I do try to make sure they know they can 'ask or come to me' for anything and I will try my best but that doesn't mean it's always yes.
I guess I'm lucky they really don't ask for much even at Xmas etc when it would be so easy for them to have lots of wants.
