    Thanks everyone,

Do I wrap the potato in foil? If I do, do I wrap them loosely or tightly?

I don't foilwrap because I like a thick crispy chewy skin. My daughter foil wraps hers because she doesn't!

I usually make a batch - when doing a roast dinner when the oven will be on longest is best to save on electricity. I keep them in the oven for about an hour (fan assisted oven) then let them cool, wrap, then freeze them. Then you can put them in the microwave for about 3 minutes from frozen. They taste much nicer than just cooking from scratch in the microwave.
  • slig,

I fill mine too and turn ovn ff and cook with residual heat from the oven.I also freeze once fill with a varety of fillings - cheese and onion, heese and mango, baked beans and cheese, bbq, chili.Pop them wapped individually and take out what you need in th morning and microwave for 3mins voila..

Memories!!! I used to send half a stuffed jacket potato to creche with ds1 when he was about 8 months old as the others had packet foods and because I was only working for a month I didn't want him to forget HM food. The staff were really good about reheating the filling for him - andf the skin made a handy container.

my method of oven baking is to wash the potatoes, rub a little salt onto the skins (it crisps them up) then cook for 75 mins on about gas mark 6/7

This has never failed me :)

hehe just remembered my first attempt at jacket tattys, it was a failure of epic proportions. I tried microwaving it, oven cooking it and in the end boiling it. Needless to say it didn't work!

I found tatties took agggees ,even with a skewer ,found out by accident that if you cook them on a metal tray instead of directly on the shelf ( like I always did ,thinking the heat would get to them better) thye cooked much quicker :)

If were away camping i always boil them whole in skins for 10 mins then finish off on the BBQ

I scrub them, and rub the skins with olive oil with a bit of salt in it, then stab 'em up well with a sharp knife. Just the therapy you need if you've had a bad day at work....then I give them an hour & 15 mins in the oven at Gas no. 7, a bit less for smaller ones, sometimes the real monsters need a bit longer.
