I've always washed the potatoes, brushed olive oil over a piece of foil, place potatoe on and then sprinkle salt over. Wrap up and bung in oven until you are ready for them. I've left mine in there for over 2 hrs before now and they've been right as rain............................... Lovely crispy skin and wonderfully soft and delicious inside. You can always cut in half - lengthways - sprinkle cheese over and put back in oven to melt. :j
  • havent been on here for a while but the baked tates were a complete disaster! and i ended up throwing them as i have no bloody patience.

 Just stick them in the oven for 1 hour at 200 c (stab with a knife first here and there.):)
  • what is a good micro % / convection temp/ time for a combi please.
  • Started reading this about an hour into cooking Jackets myself!!

Did one yesterday, but the skin wasn;t as crispy as I like, so today I smeared olive oil, with a bit of salt, pepper and rosemary in it. I'll know how well it works in about half an hour!!

Also have the leftover from the sauce I made yesterday to warm up (tin of creamed mushrooms, tin of tuna, some sweetcorn, in a saucepan.)

Feeling hungry now, nice smell from the oven :)
  • i could stot a baked potato of alliance and leicester window right now. what a wonderful xmas suprise

I'm the worlds worst cook but I got this method from a girls magazine I had in my early teens..........................lol

Slice large potatos in half, scour them in criss cross pattern, spread with butter/margarine (whichever suits) and bake in the oven till they look nice and brown on top...............bout an hour I think.

Or...........cut a cross on the top of large potato..............pop in the over and cook for an hour or until soft.

my american aunt taught me the best way to cook jacket spuds, (this is ONLY for ovens NOT microwaves)

Wash potato and pat dry with kitchen paper.
Rub the ourside of the spud with bacon fat (i use butter, when I have not got this )

DO NOT !!!!! or pierce the potato.

sprinke some sea salt over, and cook in a hot oven, until done.

The first time I did this I was terrified that the spud would expolde all over my oven, but it doesn't and they really are the best baked spuds in the world.

As I said this will not work in a microwave, as they would expolde, only in an oven.
  • sounds dangerous.......:S hehe
