Hi all,
I havent earned much extra money today about £1 slicethepie...i cant stand the music on there at the moment. Its awful to listen to. But its extra money so i cant moan really.
I had my letter through that loan has been settled and closed.:j w hooo!!!
I have spent most the day today feeling really confused, OH and i have talked about buying a house v renting. And we're now thinking of renting because of costs, the market and lending at present. Plus the main thing is starting a family. We want to start a family soon (end of year) but feel stuck by house prices. So we have been seriously thinking of renting and starting a family. Instead of saving to buy which could take years, then struggle trying to pay mortgage, bills, maintance costs and a baby...we would probably fall flat on out face and have no where. At least with renting, we wouldnt have to worry about maintence etc. Then we could carry on saving while renting.
When e do start a family will OH be able to look after us on just his wage of £18,000? Would there be any benefits or tax credits for us? Some many questions so confusing!.....Is there any right time to start a family?!Make £5 a day JAN £121/175 FEB £283/175:jWeekly Grocery budget of £35! Jan £95.05/175 Feb £37.53/1750 -
Don't think there is ever a right time but if you want to do it do it!
You have £10k anyway, could you not see if you can get a mortgage with that? If you wait until end of year to buy you would have more anyway! You still have 9 months once your pregnant!
Renting is partly what has caused my debt and i personally don't want kids until i own my own house now so will be a few years for us, it is a lot harder to save when renting and you will only be on 1 income as well which will make it harder (sorry to sound negative don't mean too!)
The website http://www.entitledto.co.uk/ can help you with tax credit and benefit info etc.Now a SAHM trying to earn some spare pennies each month0 -
Hi,
Well i made a post on family board here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=806723
and ive been turned to renting so we can start a family. Esle if we was to buy a house then i couldnt see the right time to start a family ever coming up as we would not be able to afford both mortgage and a family on just my OH's wage. So for now renting is the way forward for us. Then in a few years time the house prices will hopefully have dropped, and lending will be better. And by then the baby wouldnt be a baby so i would be at work again and we could then afford to buy hopefully.
We should both be debt free by May. We're thinking start renting in June/July.See how things go, then end of year plan to try for baby.:oMake £5 a day JAN £121/175 FEB £283/175:jWeekly Grocery budget of £35! Jan £95.05/175 Feb £37.53/1750 -

Hi I regularly read your thread just don't post much sorry. I haven't read your thread on the family board but I was wondering about the rent/mortagage debate... where I live the rent is about equal to what you would pay in a monthly mortgage for a similar property, is that not the case where you live?0

Hi, Id say its around the same yes, but with the way things are with lending money and the housing market, it not really the best time to buy. And we're getting a little stressed living at home with our parents, and it would be a good test to make sure we can live with each other before making such a big move buying together!:oMake £5 a day JAN £121/175 FEB £283/175:jWeekly Grocery budget of £35! Sounds like you have weighed up all your options and are being real and sensible about things.
Good luck with everything
