Thanks for all advice have decided to get sky hd box from ebay,can anyone say which one I need?..looking at a 2015 one with remote and all leads for £30...figure I don't need bells and whistles as its just for receiving.this is a business seller.

I did,but as its only a receiver I want i think cheaper option better,with all the catch up i cant see me needing the record option...as you,ve prob gathered i,m not that tech minded!..currently watching tv thru chromecast with my battery draining!

Get a BT Youview DTR-T2100 set top box from Ebay. They are around £50 and will do freeview including HD channels

OP doesn't have an aerial, that's why everyone is talking about satellite boxes.

Don't bother with this - a separate box is better - USB recording on a TV is usually very restrictive and frustrating. Just for starters, you'll probably be stuck watching what you're recording because there'll only be one tuner.

NO! You could have a Sky HD box for that money off Gumtree, and an HDMI picture (and sound) instead of rubbish analogue RF.
