You could have bought a new Panasonic with a SCART fitted, they can still be found....

Make and model of TV? Take a look at the documentation that came with the TV, it will tell you what connections there are at the rear.

However, I think you should take up the suggestions to buy a used Sky HD box, or a Freesat box. Then an HDMI lead to fit.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

Hi ,after 13 yrs my faithful Panasonic bit the dust...I had this connected to a very old sky box,i don't pay sky this was just a receiver, went to set up new smart tv and there is no scart sockets.having a look on google I can either have an ariel installed for freeview or buy a sky hd box from ebay..does anyone have any thoughts?...thanks.

Have a look at the other sockets on your new TV they usually have RGB or a mini jack that will take a Scart cable adapter:

Get a BT Youview DTR-T2100 set top box from Ebay. They are around £50 and will do freeview including HD channels as well as recording without needing to subscribe to anything.

As advised above check the connections. Many modern TVs have satellite tuners, they don't even mention it in the advertising and blandly just state DVB-S on the box whilst making a big show of Freeview !
  • thank you all for replys, its the Samsung 50mu6120...lovely tv...think I will go down the root of a used sky box.my house was a new build that came with ariel optional!...as I had sky it was an expense I thought I didn,t need!
  • thanks again.i think this tv can record...it also has a part ...5v interface??....I really need to swot up!:o

Why bother buying a nice new TV and then ruining the experience by feeding it with a bodged analogue signal? As said above by the time you've spent money on adapters and other messing around you could probably buy a second hand digital satellite box. Thats what I'd recommend anyway.
