I have just received the dreaded Parking Charge Notice fro a company that looks after a hotel car park. My wife and I didn't see the notices ( which I know is no excuse ) but were sat in the car with the engine on waiting for my son to arrive from the train station for 17 Minutes !!.. yes 17 Minutes and they have slapped me with a £100 fine

Do I really have no choice but to pay the £60 in the next 14 days for 17 minutes

I really am strapped for cash so any advice would be great

    1) You've posted in the wrong place, you need the parking sub-forum.
    2) Please remove the image posted as you have left more than enough information visible for you to be identified and possibly targeted by Parking Eye, who do monitor these forums.

Why did you leave the engine running for 17 minutes? If you're strapped for cash, it's a good way of throwing money away.

Fight the charge by all means but you could view it as an environmental charge for sitting there polluting the environment unnecessarily.
  • I didn't mean all 17 mins .. goodness me I ask about a parking ticket and I get environmental claptrap. I am extremely eco aware so dont talk such rubbish
  • Thanks for your advice..I have removed the photo and I will move the question elsewhere or if I get unhelpful answers ( not yours ) I will not even bother. This site used to be so helpful but now everyone seems to have an agenda.. thanks anyway

    Seems pretty clear to me.

So you're "eco aware" yet dismiss criticism of your 17 minutes sitting there with the engine running as "environmental claptrap." Right.

Were you (or your son) staying at the hotel? Did you have a booking at said hotel and later choose not to check in? Or were you just chancing it?

Johno has given you some helpful advice. My advice is be less confrontational.
I need to think of something new here...

My God isn't there a tree that needs hugging?

Yes, and an invoice to be paid or challenged and fuel to be paid for. Hardly the actions of someone "eco-aware" or moneysaving. Mind you, not reading the signs and keeping the engine running in the hope of not being liable for a parking charge isn't clever, either.

"Ridiculous parking charge"? Quite right, it was ridiculous parking.

If you were not a customer of the hotel, then you had no business parking there at all, let alone for 17 minutes. £60 sounds about right.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

I suspect that the OP is trying to argue that sitting in a stationary car with the engine running is not parking.........
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
