Another good use for Persil bags.

When holidaying with young (and old) children, don't waste money on crabbing lines with sharp hooks - plonk a bit of meat (pig's liver is best) into a bag with a small stone and tie onto a ball of string. Oik it over the pier or harbour wall and watch the crabs come flocking over. The nack then is bringing them up clinging onto the bag and knocking them off into your bucket.

Hours of fun and no bleeding fingers - unless you get nipped by a crab!

We would all like to support our local shops but if you are on a tight budget they are not the best places to go if you run out of something vital in between the weekly supermarket shop. It's not a good idea either to go to the supermarket 'just for a few things' midweek because you may come out with extras.
The solution is easy - never run out of things! It can take a while to build up, but ideally you need to have 2 of everything, one that is in use and one in the cupboard, I have duplicate things such as washing tablets, foil, cling film, breakfast cereals, baked beans, washing up liquid, toothpaste etc and these get replaced when I finish the one that is in use - not when the one that is in the cupboard is used (I say cupboard but you could store things in a box under the bed in the spare room etc) Building up your groceries this way means that you only need the corner shop for fresh goods midweek, you still support them, but you look after your budget too. Also, if you ever have a week when you can't get to the supermarket for whatever reason you have a good back-up store in place.

this also works with kids clothes!

charity shops, freecycle, hand me downs and sales use them all, stock up clothing for at least the next few sizes and there you go!

this is particularly good with babies as they quite literally will sometimes fit something one day and the next day it's too tight (did you know a baby can grow up to .25 inch overnight?)

i tend to buy medium weight items then in winter they can be layered in summer you can have the kids wear sandals or shorts etc to make it cooler

cheap babywipes are great for getting paint off your hand either gloss or emulsion
  • I agree – I use them to wipe up spills or drips when I'm painting as they're good for emulsion and gloss, particularly with fiddly jobs like window frames (heaven knows what they do to a child's skin...).

Just a smidgin of toothpaste on the brush is enough to clean your teeth.
The amount aqueezed out as per the adverts would last me a month.

Put your dishcloth on the top rack in the dishwasher to get it clean (not that I have a dishwasher, but my brother does this with his!)

  • Why spend money on water, and clutter the envirenment with plastic bottles? Fill a jug or bottle with cold tap water and place in fridge to stand for an hour. Tastes just as good.

I agree. Also run the tap for a few minutes so you don't get the standing water. I always think free-flowing tap water to be far healthier than water that has been standing in a plastic bottle for however long, in the shops and before that in a warehouse.

I use a water filter. I actually missed the chlorine taste for a while - I've been drinking it since I was born - but I much prefer it filtered now, and I drink more of it, which ought to tell me something.

I may have posted this before, butif not her egoes. For a cheap and effective shave balm for legs, underarms etc use emulsifying ointment from chemist, baby oil or cheap hair conditioner - works brilliantly!
