  • When you put dough to rise in a bowl you're told to cover it with either a damp cloth, oiled clingfilm or put the bowl into an oiled freezer bag to keep it from drying out.
Far easier to give the bowl a quick squirt of spray oil, put the dough in the bowl, turn it over so that the dough has a slight lick of oil on the surface and then there is no need to oil the clingfilm AND the bowl is easier to clean too.
If I screw my eyes up tight I can just about see where you're coming from

When burning food onto the bottom of pans or letting the pan boil dry and turning black on the bottom, try using a tablespoon of bicarb and about an half inch of white vingear.Leave for 10-15 mins and you can scrape it off with your finger.

I admit I quite often let the pans boil dry as I`m too busy on here reading posts I forget about the dinner.

  • If you have any marzipan left over from Christmas it may have gone a little hard, you can grate it and add to things like the filling for a fruit pie, or fruity bread buns like Chelsea buns

I put them in a "zip-lock" freezer bag thingy. I keep it in the bottom drawer in the freezer with the veg, doesn't seem to smell too much but maybe the onions i bought aren't so strong? OH doesn't usually go in the freezer so wouldn't complain it smelled anyway.

    Hi all,

I am going to try to be lots more OS in 2007 and I just wondered what your top 10 Old Style tips are and also what your 'disasters' have been (to the point that you just couldn't be OS on whatever it was :p !)

    Thanks :T

    Mine would be:

Plan your meals (using cupboard and freezers for the main)

    Cook in bulk and freeze

Buy lots of bicarb (good for nasty smells/ mould/ degreasers)

Buy micro-fibre cloths (can be washed and reused)

Be brave and try new things - new receipes/ shops/ brands/ products

Don't beat yourself up if all goes wrong. At least you had a go

I know that's only 6 things but it's late... am sure others will post and have their own ideas - breadmakers spring to mind!!!
