  • Some great tips.:T

I don't let OH go shopping as even with a list he will add items.
Look out for free or cheap events in local area (living in a city we have a number, especially during the summer) to provide entertainment and take own drinks, snack.
Use local community cinema , as a lot cheaper than chain even with promotions.
Check Local M7S and Sainsbugs on way home for YS stuff if you time it right M&S reduce all YS stuff to pennies. I've gotten packets of mince, chops etc for 50p before today :D
Had a holiday at MIL's, whilst they have been away, saves on accommodation and gave us a great base to explore the area.
When at home on own I won't put the heating on add extra layers.

    Okay, better in another thread.
  • I have to say I am always amazed by people who charge phones and other electricals at work. How on earth do you get away with it? Everywhere I have worked has had strict policies about on electrical goods with the correct dated inspected stickers on may be used on the premises. None of them allowed home items to be on the to be inspected list.

You've got 2 ways of getting round it.

    1. Charge by USB in your computer
    2. Leave charger at work and ask for it to be PAT tested when the tester comes round, ask him directly and he will do it ;-)

If you have access to the pat tester. USB usage is often forbidden too. Maybe it was just where I worked, but I doubt it. TBH I still wouldn't do it, for me it would be the same as stealing stationary or office supplies.
    Put the kettle on. ;)

We do lots of these things (not the charging at work thing tho, I agree with Alison on that one)

One thing I don't think has been mentioned is the re-use of gift bags for birthday & Christmas presents. We are not the only ones to do it in our family, which means that they sometimes do the rounds & you get them back on another occasion!

We grow a lot of our own fruit & veg on the allotment - we collect & recycle plastic trays & punnets to keep in the shed, along with some plastic bags, so that we always have something to carry back any produce.

Yers I agree surely it's stealing the electricity?

I am so well known for this that the kids no longer write on the gift cards so Mum can re use them!:o:)

I also pick up all the red elastic bands that the postmen drop, take them home and stick them in net bag and add them to a dishwasher load (when I do one) then use them to keep the pretty material tops on my preserve jars.

Even the smallest amount of leftover veg/gravy/sauce goes into a pot in the freezer (soup fairy) to turn into pot luck soup! Every soup is different but all have been edible!

    1 teabag does 2 cuppas!

Milk on the turn makes lovely scones!

Just started to learn how to patchwork using recycled fabrics.

    Ok. I confess....
If they have written on the attached tag, I untie the knot on the handle, & thread on one of my recycled Christmas card tags instead....
  • Here are some of my little OS habits:

Save leftovers no matter how little, I can usually incorporate it into lunch for the next day

Use every last drop of shampoo/conditioner/shower gel/toothpaste, usually by cutting open the bottle to get the last dregs (Husband drives me mad by chucking them before I'm done, have been known to fish them out of the bin!)

Meal planning and sticking to it by the letter

Keeping anything suitable for burning in our woodburner, old cardboard, newspapers, scrap wood, junk mail etc.

Go behind my family switching off lights, TV's, computers

Cook several things in the oven at once
