  • When I went to school.....Long time ago now...:rotfl:....All I ever wanted to do was leave and start work....No one ever mentioned anything about Uni....There were only Tech cols as I remember when I was younger...I wasn't too impressed with school..I just wanted to work..:rotfl:...Hasn't done me much harm...I went from feeding chickens, window cleaning, bar/waiter service, Royal Navy, Bakery, Thatching roofs, building trade, Clerical work...30yrs in the constabulary, built two houses and renovated 3 others...amongst other things...I look back now and wonder where the time went....:rotfl::rotfl:...I still don't know what I want to do......Currently working with an electrician as and when....Gives me something to do as I don't want to give up work......I hope I am still able to be doing something in my 70s...which is a long long way off yet....:rotfl::rotfl:

I'll be 64 this autumn and I still don't know what I want to do :rotfl:

What's even worse, looking back, I can't even think what I should have done instead... :rotfl:

Like you I have worked plenty hard enough, the bulk of it in public services, not the best paid place to be though. :(

When my DD's company first sent her by plane to London for training (and she didn't even have to book the ticket herself, they had people who do that for you) I told her that job looked like a keeper. :)

She's had company cars for over 15 years now, so DGS and DGD have no idea that cars might cost money, also they think if something goes wrong, someone just shows up at the door with another one. :)

Good luck to your son - the first step is the hardest, after that it will all fall into place.

Hello All and Happy New year to each and everyone one xxx

Had a brief look back - noticed chat about kids and degrees and jobs etc...........I feel your frustrations- son has music degree followed by a masters in psychology- his planned route into neuropsychology ruined by a false accusation by a nutty girlfriend- I was actually scared he would do something daft as he was so depressed after losing hope of his chosen career-

Just saying - life can (and often does) change in an instant and often out of our control.

But more often than not- things have a way of working out and let's be honest being part of the elite makes us more more determined (ferret like) than most and as such we will always do what we can for our kids - and that will get them far:D:D:D

I will be back properly after 17th - DS leaves on that day for NZ
