BIB. Sorry but this is complete nonsense. And they are no more or less secure than any other similar device.
You are right to suggest doing research but it helps to trust in facts and not BS.
Complete nonsense is a bit strong!.
What other 'similar devices' do you have in mind? These are specific to a specific industry that has been proven to be far from open and accurate when dealing with its customers.
I am not interested in having any, what one might term 'intelligent', equipment installed in my house that, as far as is possible, I cannot control.
Also, it would not be the first time that 'something new' where the initial 'facts' from so called experts have turned out to proved inaccurate.

Actually, no it is. I meant exactly that. It is complete nonsense. Just like coronavirus/5G nonsense.
And yes, any "internet of things" device is open to possible attack. suggest that they are completely and utterly safe; nothing is. Hence my phrasing of that statement.

Whilst I might in the future agree with your comments I would still argue that it is too soon to totally accept some relatively modern ideas and theories. Whilst not technology based how long did it take before we found the true effect of, for example. thalidomide?
I was going to say that I am purely being 'devil's advocate' but then you referred to a government  document as a purveyor of truth!!!

It is said that there is a limit to everything. This cannot be true as everything has no limit!

There's plenty of genuine reasons to dislike smart meters without making stuff up: the fact that they are replacing perfectly functional existing meters at great expense which we are all having to pay through increased bills based on the dishonest assertion that they could somehow reduce people's energy costs is more than enough reason to reject one.

No-one has ever actually said that they can, in and of themselves, reduce your energy bills. Certainly not any energy company that I know of. Nor any proponent for their use. It would be complete nonsense to state that as a fact as it is simply not true. So that's not another reason to dislike them because it's simply not true.

The radio signals used by smart meters are not unique to smart meters. So all the fantasists who see them as RF evil presumably also don't permit any device using 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G, Wifi, Bluetooth,  Zigbee, etc in their homes? So that's mobile phones, tablets, laptops, remote controls, broadband routers, TVs, Sky boxes, car keys, smart watches, kids toys..... shall I go on?

Well, Nabuh Energy, the worst rated supplier in the Citizens Advice league table, gets pretty close to doing exactly that !

Can you please provide evidence that bills have increased as a result of smart meters? I'd say the opposite in fact, because looking at the cheapest tariffs on energy price comparison websites such as Uswitch or MSE Cheap Energy Club, many of the cheapest tariffs insist (in the t&c's) that you agree to take out a smart meter if you don't already have one. Strange way to increase bills eh?

One example; from a "worst provider". Thanks for making my point for me  :)
Plus you could make the case that it's accurate but badly-worded; probably on purpose!
They can help you save money and energy.
