Glad to hear that everyone is doing as well as can be expected.
@SL - were you close with MIL? My condolences.
I have decided to volunteer for the bank rota to support front line services with the council, not without some trepidation. Unfortunately the process isn't made easier by the fact that you require your payroll number to sign up (which I can't access from home). Will get it from boss on Monday.
Bit my lip and made a £600 payment into my SIPP today (topped up to £750 by the gummint, with a few £ to come at the end of the year). I have to believe that this isn't the end of what we consider "normal". Slim pickings for debt repayment as a consequence, £13.78 paid off CC.

Isn't it strange how only a matter of weeks ago everything was different, normal? I have no idea what to call this.

Good for you, Ed, thats admirable to volunteer.  Am also very impressed that you made a payment into your SIPP - and of course, you're right, this isn't the end of "normal", barring a few minor tweaks.

It's a lovely sunny day here, I wish we had more laundry to do, make use of the free electricity and drying!
Today will be a dull day of thorough housework. It's my birthday at the start of next week and all the month end stuff needs to be done before then. I am *not* cleaning the tumble dryer on my birthday :p
It's not all bad though, I am due independent exercise for the first time in 3 days, I can do my favoured 4.5 mile circuit through our part of the city.
Have a nice weekend everyone - try and grab some outside time while the sun is shining!
Sunny here too but very windy and cold.  Power cut of at least 3 hours in the night and the gale blew part of the summerhouse roof off.  Have been out from first light helping DH to secure it.  Counting that as my exercise for today, don't fancy battling the wind to go for a walk.  One good thing to come out of this limiting of outside trips and the total lack of cars on the narrow country lanes is that I feel more confident going out on the bike for exercise.  DH is a  keen cyclist and often goes out for a quick ride before dinner every day anyway.  I rarely join him as I'm not very confident and feel a bit wobbly especially when cars come past at speeds unsuitable for the road and far too close.  We go for walks together but cycling is his exercise of choice and now it's something we can share more.

I hope everyone is staying well and coping.  Well done on volunteering to help where it's needed, Ed..

    A gale? Poor your Delichon!
My discovery of cycling came very late in life (Cycle to Work scheme last year). I'm currently kicking myself because I fell off my bike in January, ended up somewhat battered and have left the bike locked in the bike store at work. I could really use it right about now. Maybe if there's a return to work with reduced hours or similar I'll be able to lay my hands on it.

Life under the dome continues to be relatively normal in our neck of the woods - although life in close quarters is causing us all the occasional grump. I never realised just how much I enjoyed a little bit of time to myself, even humdrum things like the daily commute were obviously a chance to clear my thoughts and decompress! Health wise, the family are well. MIL appears to have had Covid-19, although she has recovered and a friend has it as well.
My attempts to volunteer trundle on, will hopefully get a work phone and start this week.
I got a bit too carried away with the finances/additional pension payments and ended up with my budget all over the place. Suffice to say, we had less than £20 in the world yesterday :D Thankfully I have been paid and a small increase (£75/period or so) has been applied. I'm not sure if this is the result of my tax code being fixed for the new financial year, or a few days at my increased salary?
For a few days it appeared that we had hit the perfect financial storm, as Mrs E looked very likely to be furloughed and now looks as if there is no chance she will be furloughed (as five of her colleagues volunteered)! We jumped to address this fairly aggressively and I requested a mortgage holiday, which was granted straight away with no questions. Thankfully it looks like this will no longer be needed, but we'll keep it in place and use the money freed up to pay off debt, start an emergency fund and/or hold back some money in case remortgages are hard to come by at the end of the year. I'm not sure what to expect now that the housing market is effectively on hiatus.
    £49.86 paid off CC.
Right, had better finish the finances or Mrs E is going to murder me! :o
