Re antibiotics not working - They won't if the underlying cause is viral, rather than a bacterial infection. As KC says, keeping hydrated is crucial (all of you!).
I don't want to sound complacent as although the extremes of temperature are a huge worry, you can cool her using cool water on a facecloth and a damp towel across the back of her neck, even sponging her with tepid water if it persists. A nice cuddle in a blanket to keep her warm is the other old remedy if she is shivery. A paracetamol linctus will bring her temperature down and some honey and lemon with hot water will soothe the soreness while her body fights back. The same will work for adults.
Having had loads in the past, I now only take antibiotics when I have the kind of chest infection that causes me to develop pleurisy (a recurring thing for me, sadly). Our bodies are marvellous things, responding to attack by infections by developing our own defences against them.

Yeah, that's my concern.
DD coughed herself sick last night. Luckily we caught it and it seemed to help her sleep (phlegm is horrible stuff!) Mrs E and I both had a rotten night and are still feeling rubbish today. We have kept DD off nursery, although she will have to go back tomorrow.
I am dosing myself with vitamins, paracetamol and salt water gargling.

Crawls out from under a rock
With the exception of DD (who has perked up a good deal), we have had the week from hell. Congestion, dizziness, fever, weakness and fatigue, hacking coughs, headaches and upset stomachs _pale_
I had an entire week off work - such a thing last happened (to my great embarrassment) 12 years ago when I'd just started my first job in London and experienced a trapped nerve :rotfl:
We have been loading ourselves up with painkillers, decongestants and cough medicine and are hopefully starting to turn a corner. I have felt awful about the backlog of work in the office and have to keep telling myself that it won't improve if I made everyone else sick, too. I will drag myself in on Monday, regardless :coffee:
Today we will try and do some housework and perhaps start cooking again. £3.83 paid off a CC. My CC with the mahoosive limit has arrived and I will activate that today. I will, however, hold on on making transfers so as to buy myself as much time as possible at 0%.
Hope everyone else is happy (and healthy, which is possibly more important)!0 -
Oh dear sounds awful, so hard when you've got a wee one as well.
Hope you won't rush to return to work too soon if you are still feeling poorly especially if it was a virus.
Take care0 -
Ye gods, Ed, sounds horrible. I'm glad you've dragged yourself out of your sickbed, but rest while you can, please2023: the year I get to buy a car0

I hope you are well enough to be back at work today - and that if you are not, you have not gone in! That is what did for me when I first stopped, I have only in the last week stopped being full of snot and now I seem to have the itchy eyes associated with rhinitis - probably leaf mould and dust triggering it but it might be a tree pollen - at least one lot of pink blossom in our garden. Deep joy!
Good news that the large card is through - it just simplifies things so much; having fewer cards to make minimum payments on.
There was an article in yesterday's Sunday Times Business and Money supplement about Stoozing! Who would have thought it! It was a 74 year old chap and his wife with lots of accounts that pay interest, and regular savers, on a £30k investment he was getting a 4.4% return - many funded by 0% cash advance offers. We used to do that with our MBNA cards - £15k and £12k respectively. I have found a link to it here. Happy Sunday all :coffee:
We have all just about recovered (the occasional cough and sniffle for Mrs E). We celebrated last week by going for lunch together, which felt like a rare treat after weeks of lurgy. I used flexi leave for the first time ever, which is nice, but nigh on impossible to accrue as I work compressed hours.
The last few weekends have felt a bit meh, but I put that down to us slowly getting back into our normal return and a lack of fresh air.
It would appear that spring is giving serious thought to sprunging and I managed an hour or so in the garden this morning. Nothing wild, just getting rid of crab grass, attempting to plant some daffodil bulbs that have already sprouted and using up a few bags of topsoil left over from last year. Mrs E and DD both want to plant tulips (more of an autumn project), but we will be putting down some begonias at the front of the house once I get paid in a few weeks.
On that front, nothing massive happening financially, although I paid £4.84 off a CC this morning. Feeling a bit skint and Mrs E not exactly helping by wanting an expensive birthday party for DD. I love DD to bits, but the escalation from no costs for her first 3 birthday parties to £££ is an unwelcome surprise. I don't really feel that there's much I can do to "win" this argument, so will probably acquiesce on the proviso that it's an every other year thing...
I have an all day training event at work tomorrow that sounds pretty generic, so looking forward to a wee quiet day with a bit of learning and less work than usual
Hope everyone is healthy and relaxed.0
