Because we know there are horrible miserable gits out there who hate kids, never allow a mother to pass through with a pram and push in front of them. So we try our best to aim for the horrible git's ankles, causing them to be even more miserable (if that is possible) and hopefully some snot or spit will end up on their trousers as we go past. :D

well said, i have had people look down on me many times because i happen to be pushing a pushchair!!
the mum could of collasped her pushchair but would the driver of been willing to wait for her to do so??

15 years ago when mine were young () there were no spaces for prams on buses - we all took the lightweight collapsible kind and didn't have these difficulties. Generally, people would start the folding process as the bus approached to cut down on waiting time. If a mother struggled, someone would help, has that stopped now?

Well said snowmaid, now I push my disabled mum around, I too run over the ankles of the selfish ones who think you should get out of THEIR way. Unfortunately, she doesn't emit snot and dribble, however, she can knock 'em dead with a look;).
  • i am a bus driver and there are strict rules about how many prams you can allow on the bus, like others i think she should have folded the pram up, the driver may have held the baby as she did this, i have done that before and its a big help

I'll admit to losing a great deal of respect for Martin if having witnessed this event, his only thought was 'Hmmm...I must post this information on my blog' rather than doing something to help like suggesting to the woman she fold her buggy, or maybe remonstrating with the driver for some common sense / compassion.

I use buses as my main mode of transport - and I honestly cant understand why people dont approach this issue with more common sense - in morning/afternoon bus is going to be busy so even if there is space for a pram it makes more sense to fold it up and not take up so much room in first place.

I'm not a mum but spent years as a kid folding up buggies for my siblings to help my mum out.

Reason would say if a baby cant stand its self then in most cases be small/light enough to be held while buggy gets collapsed.

I actually take a great deal of pleasure watching people being told to do this as it amounts to laziness in first place!

Also stands to reason there should be space for a wheelchair at all times on all buses - after all its impossible for them to get on buses while buggies are just staying uncollapsed for convienience!

Having said all this I will help if someone needs buggy collapsed and more people should!

  • it's not a case of people not folding their buggies - the drivers are saying you are not allowed to fold it. they say they can not take more than 2 buggies on a bus, whether they are folded or not (some buses do allow you to fold them).

those shopping baskets on wheels that pensioners use take up space and block the aisle (there are always more wheeled baskets than there are pram spaces, the bus here is used mainly by pensioners). the bus is never more than a third full. perhaps they should make them with more space, and fewer seats - that way prams, wheelchairs and trolleys won't be refused, or blocking the aisle.

What has happened over the last forty years? I used a buggy and buses - didn't have a problem because I ensured I had the buggy collapsed and ready to enter. I did not expect to be helped - my child - my responsibility!

Whatever is the matter with modern mothers? Supermarkets give you endless spaces for 'mother and child' parking - why? When you park you have a buggy or pram with wheels - why do you need to be so close to the entrance? My sister had to fight for four years to obtain a disabled parking badge to enable her to park in a space wide enough to allow her to get out of her car without contorting herself into a position of great pain.

While on the subject - please what is the purpose of the 'child on board' stickers in cars? Are the rest of us supposed to drive in a better manner? Don't all you who use those signs think we don't anyway? We do care about our own safety as well as that of other road users.

Britain is becoming a child-centric universe. Of course we all appreciate that children are the next generation and, as such, require special care. But so do many others in our society and they are disregarded on the whole.

And before you make assumptions, I am not against children - I have had my own after all.

And lastly - a plea - could you please stop your brats screaming in supermarkets and elsewhere? I would have quickly removed a child of mine that had done that but no - the aisles are filled with out of control children emitting that piercing screetch which I, for one, find excruciating.

I didnt know which part of this post i liked best so i decide to quote it all.

as for the "baby/princess/child/ on board stickers" they are so pointless,if your child is so precious and dont want to risk any injury to them, dont take them in the car,i really dont care who is on board the vehicle in front of me,it wont stop me driving the way i always do,and doubt it would alter anyones driving.

ask yourself honestly those people who have these stickers,do you alter your driving when you see someone in front with these stickers on thier car?

did you know if a car with one of those stickers is in an accident and the rescue team see this, they have to search the vehicle for a child,in most cases there is never a child in the car so someone is risking thier live for nothing.
i think they should be banned!

  • Ok Simalar thing when I was on the bus the other week. All the buggy spots where full and the bus driver asked someone to get off as a man in wheelchair wanted to get on, no one would collapse the buggy or get off and the man was left sitting at the bus stop in the rain :(

    Why didn't YOU?:o

My husband is a bus driver. All she had to do was to collapse the pram - same as we did before pram spaces were ever thought of.
we have double deckers with just a parcel shelf around here so you must fold your pushchair but i still have been told that i could not board the bus because no room because of other prams wich is possibly only one or two due to the parcel shelf being only small this has happened twice once i had a 3 week old and a todler the other time i had all 6 of my children 2 of wich was in a pram
