Why should they? Have you ever tried carrying a child in a harness? They quickly feel like they weigh a ton!

Whether you like it or not mothers and babies are important to this world, leaving some poor mother at the bus stop in the cold whilst everyone else gets on is terrible, bet that bus driver didn't feel a shred of remorse.

we are all important, even the CHAVS ( did i just really say that ? lol ), society has lost focus on whats important ( commercialism has won ) - Kylie's latest shag or Posh's latest handbag more so than helping each other out in the slightest! to even watch someone struggle without even contemplating " hey looks like she/he needs help " while continuing to text or play away with thier mobile/ipod/makeup/hair etc etc ( and thats all age groups !!!) - people have to be reminded its a balance, I for one am the friend that has no problem reminding friends this..... maybe everyone here moaning about it should be pro active & encourage others in public to help others - if you cant help out yourself ask the person next to you to help the person out, or if you need help just politely ask for assistance if you need it, if whoever cant help then ask another, dont be shy vocalise that vocal your body gave you ( some dont even have the fortune of it ) " I need help and could anyone please be of assistance please "

    on the wider point:

that bus driver and all people that have that attitude in life,...KARMA dears :rotfl: .......OH YEAH
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)

My husband is a bus driver. All she had to do was to collapse the pram - same as we did before pram spaces were ever thought of.

Prams can collapse easily. Doing it whilst holding the baby would be a completely different matter. I guess Martin could have assisted though?

I hate prams, they are a menace on our pavements, towncentres and shopping malls. Why can't parents carry their ghastly children on their backs or fronts on special harnesses, like they do in continental Europe?

Prams are a menace? What about beggers, big issue sellers, people carrying out market research, chavs, old people walking slow and tourists taking photos. Lets get rid of them all so that you can walk through town without such menaces!
  • I am a young mother with a baby... and im not a big user of public transport anymore.. i always use taxi's... waste of money I know. Reason for this is that a bus driver said the same thing to me... I even colapsed the buggy (its only a small 6kg thing) and the driver was so rude to me, and said that as the bus wasn't a disabled bus, I could not bring a buggy onto it.

However silly this sounds.. i just turned around and walked home crying... He made me so angry... I never even reported the guy, but wish I had now.

Now i never ever use a bus, and so taxi's and trams are the only way of transport for me... great money saving.. not

I have minor scoliosis... and there is no chance I could carry my 25lb baby around... are you !!!!!!! mad?? When he was born he was 5lb2oz... sure i carried him then... but mothers can't carry their babies forever. You have alot to learn my friend.. I feel sorry for your future wife....

Like your parents did you mean, when you were a ghastly child.

As for feeling sorry for his future wife, she'd probably want some ghastly children at some point and that'd mean he'd have to carry them on his back so I doubt he'd have a future wife.

never mind future wife, i feel sorry for his mother

Im yet to use a bus with my little girl for this very reason. Drives me potty seeing this though on my way to uni. Even more so when a 2nd pram comes on the bus and the first pram owner wont move or fold their pram up for space

and as for if i would offer a hand to somebody who looked like they where struggling... always, but then I'm from Ireland not England :rotfl: (waits to be hit for that comment)
  • Ok Simalar thing when I was on the bus the other week. All the buggy spots where full and the bus driver asked someone to get off as a man in wheelchair wanted to get on, no one would collapse the buggy or get off and the man was left sitting at the bus stop in the rain :(

No I agree - I am English with and Irish husband and the Irish are always willing to help.

I have two young children - one who needs a buggy all the time - and wouldn't even try and get on a bus unless I had another adult with me as it is almost impossible to manage. We have done on holiday (in the UK incidently) and never had a problem. We have found drivers to be most patient most of the time anyway. If we encountered any other type of attitude then I am afraid it would warrant a complaint to the bus company. I will not be discriminated against simply because I have a young baby that needs a buggy. How dare they.
    3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

  • i don't drive so i use buses quite often and i've found different rules on different shapes buses. whatever the rules are the driver HAS to enforce them it seems. i've been refused on a few buses because they already had prams on and apparently you're not allowed to collapse your pram on most buses. you're not allowed to leave a pram unattended - you have to hold onto it. so you can't collapse it because that means you would have to stand at the (um, i'm a bit thick today - whatever they call that metal basket thing for dumping your shopping in), and hold onto your baby/toddler at the same time.

on one bus last week a driver said there's new legislation coming in, but perhaps that's just to make all buses able to take a pram or wheelchair.

i was really angry last week when a bus driver sailed past me. i flagged the bus down but because we were about 5 paces away from the bus stop (baby wanted to pick a dandelion clock while he waited) he wouldn't stop! this is on a really busy road with no paths in the middle of cannock chase - why else would i be on the road if i didn't want the bus? he pointed to the stop and shrugged - what a horrible man! it was raining too, and it was teatime. luckily another bus came 35 minutes later
