    You made a small misjudgement.

That misjudgement had a relatively minor consequence, but came with a pretty big bill attached.

The mistake and the consequences could have been much worse.

Things aren't so bad. It's just a little setback from which you will learn and recover.

You would be wise to pay the money and settle up. If the bike owner wants to he can report you to the police for Driving without due care and attention, and Failure to report an accident. Both carry points on your licence, which will affect your insurance (probably far more than a civil damages accident claim).

Theres only a requirement to report an accident if you fail to stop at the scene and give them your details.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

...is a really expensive lesson. This incident had caused me extremely down for 2 weekends. I still cannot believe a minor mistake killed my NCB.
Driving is not only about safety, but must also be extremely careful ALL the time, a minor mistake can be very very expensive.
Don't worry about it. a bike is only metal and plastic. nobody died or was injured.

I think its the £1068 that he's worried about.

In that case, just pay the £1000 and get over it. It was your mistake, you need to take responsibility and deal with it like an adult. Nobody made you reverse into that bike. It was your own actions. Just think about the owner of the motorbike. They did nothing wrong and their bike is damaged!!!!

    Did he reverse into it?

Oh I recognise that - just trying to put it into a bigger perspective. A mistake was made, but in the big scheme of things its only money/plastic and metal. They can all be replaced. A human life cannot.

Why does it matter how the deed was done?

Then he should stop worrying - that's what he pays his insurance premium for.

Instead of worrying he should think constructively about what went wrong and how he could avoid a recurrence.

Have you checked if his motorbike is insured?

Irrelevant. Pedestrians and cyclists aren't insured and it doesn't prevent them making a claim. Hitting an uninsured vehicle doesn't prevent a claim being made successfully.
