Money Moral Dilemma: Should I sell my unwanted prize or give it away for free?

Sell it, for a decent price, I did this recently, made a few hundred quid from it, which was sorely needed, certainly more than another TV. I enter for fun, winning is a bonus. Thanks to all the competition posters.0

Nobody has actually said anywhere that the prize was a TV?0

It kinda depends what you won – there’s a big difference between a car and a DVD player…
You would get money for selling whatever it is on Gumtree or eBay to a stranger, I think your friend is just chancing it. It will take time and effort to list it though, so I would offer it to the friend at a discounted rate compared to your Gumtree/eBay price (aka mates rates).0 -
Sell it - no other real option I don't see. You wouldn't have to take full price off them, say prize was £400, take half that or some discount so that both parties are winning0

If this is a really good friend who has helped you out I would certainly consider giving it to them if they were genuinely hard up. It sounds as if your friend expects you to give it to them? Why? Do you owe favours or are they just cheeky. If just cheeky you may want to make a stand over this to define appropriate boundaries and explain that because they are a friend you are offering it a reduced price as a 'first refusal' before you consider selling it for a larger amount of money. I do think that money isn't everything and some true gifts are worth their weight in gold, but its not constructive if your friend is seeking to take advantage of you. If you owe favours because they have helped you in the past maybe this is pay back time?0

Is this a real question? It seems some of the topics lately have been quite odd.
The TV is presumably reasonably expensive, the winner went to the trouble of entering a competition to win it.
The idea of entering competitions is presumably to gain something as a result. For a “friend” to suggest it could be given free rather than to pay for it shows sheer greed.
Keep the TV if you want it, or sell it at a fair price, and find less greedy friends.0 -
Nothing to think about. It's yours to do as you please. Sounds as if your friends are jealous and want to benefit from your good fortune.
I would politely say you are willing to sell it at a very reasonable price, as it would help with Christmas, holiday, or other expense you may have. Everyone is a winner.0 -
This has been taken over by a 'MONEY MORAL DILEMMA' and it said a TV in the newsletter
