Money Moral Dilemma: Should I sell my unwanted prize or give it away for free?

If they'd won a million on the lottery, would the friend still expect something and ask for it (cash, or something of their choosing).
Just rude if you ask me. As someone who 'comps', it takes hours and hours to win something (usually small). I work full time, very long hours, long commute... why should I feel guilted into giving someone something for nothing? They're just as capable as entering some comps and might win something for themselves.2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -
I give a fair bit away but not to rude people who 'expect it free' - the 'well it cost you nothing' attitude gets on my pip - it actually costs a lot of time and effort. But each to their own on this anyway.2018 - £562 2019 - £130 2020 - £276 2021 - £106 2022 - £1400

I wouldn't call someone who is saying this to you, a friend IMO.
You've been lucky or skillful, or both and they want the reward and are refusing to give you something in compensation.
Sell it and have nothing more to do with this person as I wouldn't want to know someone like that.0 -
This sounds like an ideal chance to ditch a grasping friend who only wants you for your TV!0

Sell it and give some of the proceeds to charity. Tell "friend" that you have made a donation in their name.
I wouldn’t donate it in their name, they didn’t do anything to help win. But, say it to wind them up and ask for the money! 😜😜😜
If people have such an attitude that you didn’t pay for it, tell them to enter their own competitions!“It was only a sunny smile, and little it cost in the giving, but like morning light it scattered the night and made the day worth living.”

If your sale offer to him was at something like half the retail price but he would like it for free, then drop him! He's not so much a friend as a self-server!0

You won it not your friend. They have no more right to expect you to give it to them than to anything else you own. Sell it - preferably to someone other than your so called friend!!0

I don't really think this is a moral dilemma. How friendly are you with your friend? I'd be irritated by the sense of entitlement that leads them to expect you to give the TV to them. You could be nice and do it, but to be honest them asking for it/expecting it would put me off. It makes it different than if they just hadn't said anything and you could make a nice gesture. I'd be inclined to sell it, but your friend might not be so much of a friend afterwards.0

If you give away then you haven't got a prize.
Sell it and treat yourself to something you'd like.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)0 -
Give it to a local charity (school for example) to be used as a prize in their next big raffle. Your friend can then buy tickets for an opportunity to win it.:money.
