Faulty laptop?

If the problem is intermittent then take a video to show to them as proof of the fault.0

thats what im thinking of doing, I wont be able to go to my local currys untill sunday, so as long as I show them video proof of it doing it I shouldnt have any problems?0

What model and spec is the laptop and what games are you trying to play on it? Have you optimised you graphics card settings? Gaming forums can help with optimisation.
If it’s only happening while playing graphics intensive games it may not actually be faulty but just not powerful enough to run the games you are playing, or at least not at max quality.
Have you run a benchmark test? When I’m testing for graphics issues I use https://benchmark.unigine.com/valley?lang=en I start at ultimate quality to deliberately force a problem them lower it until it’s stable and then compare that to what the spec should be able to cope with to work out whether there is a fault or not.0 -
the specs are
Model Dell Inspiration 15 5577 Gaming.
intel i5 7300 HQ processor 2.50GHZ-3.50GHZ.
graphics card NVIDIA GTX 1050 4GB
8GB ram
windows 10 64 bit
also it sometimes does happen while on the desktop and not playing any games on it.
the games im trying to play are The sims 3, and Grand Theft Auto V.0 -
And have you been into the Nvidia settings to optimise it?
Also worth going directly to Nvidia to download the latest drivers and any patches for your card.
ETA: are you also keeping the laptop adequately cooled?
I’m old school with these and would never recommend a laptop for gaming, they are too limited from an upgrade point of view and there is no way to ever keep them as cool as you can a desktop, and cooling is so important when it comes to any intensive work on a computer.0 -
ive installed the latest drivers for my video card and I haven't really changed many settings for it in the nvidia control panel. The flickering screen used to be alot worse it would happen every 2 seconds, but since I reset all my settings its only been happening every now and again.0

And what about the cooling, what steps do you take to keep it cool?

Looking here it is only an entry level gaming card for laptops (which is also apparent from the price of the machine) cooling is something it needs and it doesn’t run GTA V in ultra, it’s just not powerful enough. The sims should be fine though, that only shows for the sims 4 but it should cope (again providing it is adequately cooled) with an older version.0 -
I use the laptop on a hard surface so it doenst block any of the fans, it does have 3 fans, 2 at the back and 1 one the side. im also thinking of getting a cooling pad cause that might help it a little bit better.0

the flicking screen has come back again and ive just recorded a video of it. would this be alright to show one of the staff in currys? I only want a replacement I dont really wanna have to send it off for a repair.0

It will be fine to show them but as I’ve explained it doesn’t necessarily prove a fault, there are a number of causes of a flickering screen and they don’t all mean there is a fault.
What were you doing this time when it happened?0
