only thing ive realised this morn is as im tied in with NW tracker until aug 2013 i know that i can alter my standing order to a minimum amount thus avoiding ERC ,however i can only op a max of £500 per mth, when i could probably pay the whole lot off in 6 wks? Theres not a way around this at all that im missing is there?? Sorry to be a pain FB, i always seem to get there in the end, but do it the long way & ive worked so hard to pay off what i have, i begrudge paying them anymore interest
Hi Thriftlynny, one thing you might want to look into to get round your maximum OP limit is approaching your lender to see if they will reduce the term. What this in effect will do is force the an increase to your 'normal' monthly overpayments and then you will still have the £500 OP limit to play with. Does that make sense?

Good point ATT,. Was going to mention that, but sidetracked with Google docs.
Wasn't sure if NW was Nat West or NationWide?
Nationwide certainly used to allow you to alter the term for free, but since introduced a £20 admin charge. May be worth paying if you can pull the end date in and ramp up the payments - should claw that back in saved mortgage interest.

Nationwide credit card.
Got the PINs today, so we're all ready to go with these cards. Have around £800 left on the Tesco card, so may just put a few transactions on, while topping the Tesco up to the limit.
Bike.
Got it off the garage wall a little earlier to check it over with starting the commute tomorrow. Front tyre was just that slightest bit softer than I recall. Decided to investigate and found a thorn embedded in tyre. On extracting with a small set of pliers I carry, I hear the familiar pfffffft sound.
Darn puncture fairy again. :mad::mad::mad:
To be fair, my last recreational route was one which was nearly all off road - organised route with work. Got the bike in bits in the kitchen with tools all over the kitchen table!
I'm now considering purchasing some new tyres. The bike is not any where near new - I brought it to this house when we moved and we have been here eight years this month, so could well be 10 years old. A modest cost of new tyres may help towards reduced punctures.
You can get puncture proof tyres - quick Amazon search suggests I can get a tyre for £13.77, but I'm not the impulsive shopper - more research needed. You can also get kevlar lining for inside tyres and that's priced at £11.39 per tyre.
Enough of a break here on MSE - back to putting tube and wheel back on bike...

Hi FB, any advice on thorn punctures gratefully appreciated. DS cycles to school daily, then off to activities and three weeks in a row he had a flat tyre and it transpires it was thorns. I haven't heard about puncture proof tyres but will definitely mention to DH. He was getting mightily frustrated with DS because the cost mounts up.
Thanks for te heads up.

I mentioned kevlar tyres this morning to a colleague in work and the response was Why? - you expecting to get shot at on the way into work?
You can get kevlar puncture resistent tyres, but it may not be possible to get them in a child wheel sized tyre. Another option may be a kevlar lining:

This appears to be available in a number of widths. The above is 40mm.
Hope that helps...

Hi FB
Where else but on here could you cover topics ranging from mortgages to kevlar tyres :rotfl:
By the way, have a look at this thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3842793 in particular the last post, that Gally is a wag (hmm, not sure how wag translates to you all, I don't mean a footballers wife!)
I suspect the last post might elicit your second LOL of the week
If only you'd received royalties on the FB spreadsheet, you could have had your mortgage paid off ages ago

you could also try slime ( might be slyme ?) which can be put in inner tubes, or buy tubes already filled.
Instantly seals punctures and works wellRosieTiger - Highest £242,000 Feb 2004

EXCUSE ME!!!!!! I NEED A MAN WITH BRAINS, NOT A THICK FOOTBALLER!!!!!!
unless it's David BeckhamA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Lol Gally, think you have misread my post, I've did say I didn't mean WAG as in a footballers wife. Where I come from a wag means 'a witty amusing person who makes jokes' and although I don't think that definition is much in use now it's been around for many years and certainly longer than blondes with too much tan
BTW I did love your *laughs evilly* joke which is why I was calling you a wag
